LSx exchange

When the LSx motor is swapped out, I assume that the related computer goes with it right?
What if any functions get tied back into the transplant unit? Functions like those that are current on the DIC?
How are other sending units tied back to the DIC?

On our LS2 conversion for example, the DIC functions just as it would stock. The old PCM is swapped out and replaced with an LS2 PCM.

What got me thinking was that on my previous LS1's there were no inputs to measure fuel economy, oil life, and average speed type stuff.
I figure that the speed thing is on the tranny or somewhere else. The oil life sensor would have to be mounted somewhere but where?
Fuel economy thing may just be a program and not really a sensor per se.
