Ah, but the real question, how does the wife feel about you miss messing with her Precious? You always want to leave an open escape....."Darn those guys at (fill in blank)! I could have done it better myself!"
doesnt work for me... then i get "why do you let them walk all over you!"
I really like the light 4 cylinder supercharged idea the most. I might be interested in a V6, but V8 seems over the top to me. I didn't really like the other guy's flame job and big ass wheels either. Guess I'm pretty happy with it as is right now.
Now if they made a big V8 size trunk conversion, I'd be more interested in buying parts from them!

If you're willing to look at used cars, $38K can buy you a Corvette, C5, today, a C6 in a few years, an LS2 SSR in a few years, or if you want new, a Mustang Cobra.
None of these would be as rare or exotic as an LS2 Sledghammer Solstice, but they can carry luggage or golf bags more easily, if that matters to you.
I'm babbling because I'm trying to figure out how to vote...
From NADA:
1999 Mallett C5 convertible, originally sold for $54,491
Current values:
Low $35,075...Average $37,150...High $43,750
Would I rather have a 7 year old C5 or a new Solstice? Hmmmmm.

heh... my wife reads the forum, too these days. I won't divulge my strategies.
If I was gonna spend that much on a neck snapping HP demon, Im not sure Id want a Solstice for the base car. Id look at a custom built car or a mod of something that was originally designed for performance. I am ok with the Solstice for what it is and that is an affordable roadster.
Now I do like what the Mallett car will be, I just wouldnt save up to get that particular car for my money. I am thinking about driving up there with my Solstice and see what kind of mods can be done for less since Mallett's so close to where I live.
I'm in the "just wanna have fun" category. Drive on weekends and sunny days only. Have the money, but not looking to race the thing. Waste of money on a depreciating asset. My ego is in check... I think... then why do i want to look cool in the Sol and be one of the 1st 1000?!?!?! Geesssshhhh

I'd seriously love to buy a V8 solstice direct from Pontiac but honestly the price would be forboding for my poor little wallet. That said I love the idea of the possibility for an LS2 conversion a little on down the road.

Why would the price be a problem? The crate LS2 is only $3,000 more than the non-supercharged ecotec.

It works in practice, but does it work in theory?

I think he is talking about the $34K to $38K for the whole package. Your price for $3K for the LS2 is different from other post, there they are quoting $5900.00.
Well, for those of you in the $33,000 range, there's always the very rare 2005 GTO V8, LS2, 400 HP. I say very rare because they've all been train wrecked...

Ah. I thought he was saying he'd like GM to add a V8 option, and was just quoting the price difference of the two crate motors.

No, actually what I was talking about is the cost of a fully-loaded Solstice at ~$25K vs a Mallet conversion + Base Solstice which would go for $35-38K. What I love is the idea that I can buy a base Solstice today and then do the conversion it a year or two down the road.
