Please correct me if I'm wrong [Nissan VQ engine in a Solstice]

I have been a nissan/ Honda guy ever since I was 13. I have done much research on the 350z what I have found out is that it is a 45 degree engine which is skinnier than the 90 degree ls engines. The 350z transmission is just a bit longer than the gto transmission so correct me if I'm wrong but it seems to me that the 350z's vq35de engine and transmission will fit in the kappa a lot easier than the ls1 will and possibly be much cheaper. I know you prob. Think I'm crazy for wanting to put a Japanese engine into a domestic chassis but the engine is lighter than the 2.4 powerplant and puts out more torque and more hp than the 2.0 and has more reliability than the ls powerplant.

It just sounds like a damn good idea to me
plus that engine just sounds nasty revving out

You're going to spend all that time/r&d to swap in an engine for a mere 30hp gain on the lnf?

Shabby's right, go big or go home for engine swaps. If cost is an issue go for LS6 or LS1, LS6 has pretty much the same power as a LS2. The 2001/2002 LS2 are LS6 blocks with out the LS6 heads and cam.

I thought I would chime in before bigblau rigurgitates his V6 BS.

Awesome idea! Nissan does make a great engine.

Might I suggest the VQ35VHR or better yet, the new VQ37VHR engine instead.

VQ35VHR -- 311hp -- 264 ft·lbf
VQ37VHR -- 328hp -- 268 ft·lbf

You should totally do it and take lots of pictures during the build.

put whatever V6 they are putting into the new camaro. 300 HP direct injected

hell there's lots of upgrades for the GM 3800 engine that is in tons of GM cars they are super cheap super strong and you can SC or Turbo them to make big numbers

or put in a supra engine

but there's folks out there who have over 350whp on the GM 2.4 engine

but really, if money is not an issue, and you like Nissan, get a GT-R engine

Again its only a 30-40hp difference, if you want some more power in the gxp get the westers tune, 290hp and over 300 ft/lbs of torque at the wheels.
Even if i had the base solstice i'd rather go with a turbo swap or an ls1/2 swap.
You want to save weight? 13b rotary engine swap.

Now that would be one unique setup.

You could call it the Solstice RXP.

let me clear something up. I do not like boost its cool at times but I prefer n/a. Ls6 are great and all but I want a motor that is completely different too many people doing the same swap. Now for the rotary it doesn't make power without boost and I don't like boost

You can stroke the 3.5L and get some aggressive cam timing set up, how much power can a NA 3.5L make?

I saw a 60's Mustang with a Supra engine in it on streetfire.net... That was pretty bad-ass... I've also seen RX7's with LS's packed in them... So do whatever you want.

I don't know too much about Nissan's 3.5L V6, but all the really crazy 350Z's that I've seen that have had 400-600hp have all been twin turbo'd... And since you don't like boost, i'm not sure how much HP you are looking to get out of the VQ35VHR. I guess that you will know.

In order to get the stock 2.4L with that HP you'll have to throw a turbo kit on. Which would probably be on of the lighter engines but will require boost.

The LNF will get you that HP but that's another engine using boost... which you don't want...

IDK, looking at it from getting the most HP, with the easiest route of doing it would be a LS V8 swap. I know they are heavier but stock they will put out way more HP than the VQ35VHR, and have more potential still N/A'd...

But I imagine it would be do-able... You'll be the first... but that's just my two cents...

What about rebuilding the 2.4 L for 11,000 or 12,000 RPMs? That would be a fun motor.

let's put it this way sly the nissan 3.5l is IMO the best nissan engine ever built. Its torque is constant from 1750rpm to about 6500rpm that engine has everything I would need in stock form. Honestly if I did this swap I would just keep it stock with I/h/e and possible air fuel controller with wideband. That engine was perfectly designed by nissan that it really doesn't need anything. When there is no sign of torque drop off untill 7000rpm then your doing something right. Sure they have strokers to up the power and torque but it doesn't have that constant line of torque. The only other engine I have seen do this and I regret to say is the 4.6 mustang gt. The vq is nasty in stock form it does not need to be touched. As far as power I'm really only looking for like 230 or 240 nothing serious
