I saw that the drift solstice gxp has a 6speed t56 trans.
Does anyone know id this is a direct bolt-on??
If not what has to be done to get one in the car?
The T56 is and has been used in the F-bodies, mustangs, vipers and vettes. It is 135 lbs and can handle approximately 500-600 ft lbs, depending on the version. It is not a direct bolt-in. I have a spare laying on the floor of my garage, what else do you want to know.

and the solstice GXP red bull drift car does not use a t-56....it's A HKS sequential gear box....there is Nothing from a GXP in that car other than the frame..saw it up close and personal two weeks ago at Drift ATL.

This competition ECOtec turbo engine, running on E85 ethanol-based fuel, uses thick-wall iron cylinder liners, a race-ported cylinder head, tubular stainless steel exhaust headers, a performance camshaft, a unique engine control system and a water to air intercooled turbocharger. It was developed by the same GM Racing engineers behind the successful ECOtec sport compact drag racing motors, which generate over 1,400 horsepower in a 2.2-liter turbocharged configuration.

It is a modified trans and is truly a needed spare. You can find a T56 for approx $2,000 for a rebuilt unit. To make them shift you must rework them. One of the best T56 people in the country is John Dinato. It you want his number, send me a pm.

I drove a T56 GTO for 3 years and to tell you the truth I don't miss it much with the close ratio 5 spd manual in the GXP with the short throw. Unless you add more horsepower (ie - a V8) it doesn't make much sense to me to add a T56. It is a nice, solid trans though...thats for damn sure....thousands of F-Car, Y-Car and GTO buyers would agree.
The one thing I do miss is the 0-60 in 1st gear...although adding a shift makes things more interesting in the GXP.

I used to be able to drive around in 6th gear at 40 mph in my GTO. I disagree that 5th is an overdrive gear on the T56...atleast in the GTO. All T56's are geared differently depending upon application. 1st gear is super tall though....

That is only true if you keep the drive axle ratio the same. The T56 ratios are, as noted by SmallDealer, 2.66 in 1st, and 0.50 in 6th, for an overall ratio range of 2.66/0.50 = 5.32. The Aisin AR5 is 3.75 in 1st and 0.73 in 5th for an overall ratio range of 3.75/0.73 = 5.14. The difference between the two is only 3.5%.
The Kappa drive axle ratio is 3.91:1, so if you changed it to 5.61:1 and installed the T56 you would see virtually no change in 1st or 5th/6th. No, I do not know if a 5.61:1 ring and pinion is available for the Getrag drive axle. Probably not.

So its not worth all the hassle for 4 cylinder, just for 8cyl or super high hp 4cyl..
Besides, I don't believe a bell housing is available to mate a T56 transmission bolt pattern to a 4 cylinder Ecotec 2.4 L bolt pattern. One could be machined from solid, but you are talking big $$$$$. Though many are available from GM to mate a T56 to a V8 block (from the CTS-V/GTO/Corvette...........
