I have to ask this. Are those planning V8 conversions taken into consideration the differential problems some of the Kappa cars are experiencing? Can you imagine taking it in for warranty work with an LS1 in the engine bay? How can this be addressed?
Greg
Note that LS1 Camaros had a very similar problem from '98 - '02. Axles would seldom fail but a good portion (20%) leaked around the pinion seal within 25K miles and most developed leaks by 100K miles.
Regardless, our dealer refused to do the repair under warranty due to the car's mods (headers, CAI, aftermarket intake manifold, larger throttle body) and there was not much we could do.
We eventually did shread the rear end and had to replace it with an aftermarket diff, but not due to leaks or fluid - we simply stripped the teeth off of the ring with a particularly aggressive launch with a lot of NOS.

I'm new to the forums and to the Solstice and was wondering who and where would i be able to get a V8 engine either LS2 and i even heard something about a LSX in Canada... I am in Victoria BC and would like to get a V8 in my sol but sending it out to Malet is just not an option (for now anyway)
So... any of these much talked about V8's available in canada?
I wouldn't go with the Archie stuff. Go to Mallet or Werks. They at least guarantee performance. IE dyno numbers and qtr mile times. Archie has no guarantees. Garbage if you ask me.
Archie dynoed 230 whp from a 377 cubic inch motor that he put into a fiero, and a customers car he did dynoed 240 whp from a 330hp gm crate motor. Absolute junk. I wouldn't recommend him. Stick with Mallet or Werks. My opinion.
Sounds like a whole bunch of engine swappers out there!
I generally modify what is in there (as with my 3.2 Fiero) but I did just finish a 3.4 1957 MG with custom body. I felt that the Camaro engine was adequate for a 2000 lb. car (equivalent to 300 BHP in your Sol or Fiero, and didn't want to go overboard.
And of course I could always turbo the 3.4 (even if the turbo would have to live by the back axle....) if I felt I was in need of more power!
BTW, I second Archie as having an unblemished record in the Fiero world.
Here is the thread V8Archie started. I don't have a SOL yet, but I did have one of his first Fiero choptops and LT1 swaps and it was a very reliable, nicely finished and insanely fast.
When I get my SOL, it will be sent to him soon after.
Like I said I think Archie's stuff is sub par to what you can get from Mallet or Werks for just a fraction more price wise. Don't take it to a shadetree mechanic like Archie.

I honestly don't see how the dyno numbers are Archie's fault. He doesn't change the stock tune on the engine, it stays as delivered by GM.
I don't know what your problem with Archie is, but all his stuff looked to be good quality to me...I wouldn't be calling him a 'shadetree mechanic' with the work and reputation he's gained through his Fiero conversions.

dude whats your problem with archie? i called him about the conversion and he can keep all your factory equipment operational, including the gauges, which no one else is able to do. he is straight foward, does great work, and im most likely going ot have him do my conversion for an ls2 and t56. i keep all my factory equipment, and the power to go with it. dyno number are not the fault of who is doing the install. all i know is the solstice typically losses 15% power, so if the engine is putting out 400, keep in mind id be putting an intake and full exhaust on it, and retuning it, i figure ill be at a strong 475 so less the 15% thats around 400 to the wheels give or take. i will be dynoing the car when i have it tuned by slp.
I kinda wondered the same thing. This guy has 4 posts and they all blast Archie one way or another. I smell one of those characters that live under a bridge....
Guess we will just have to see if he sticks around or if this was a drive-by on Archie.

I have Werks No.1 and would recommend them for the conversion. The car runs great and they have taken very good care of me all along the way. If there are some specific questions out there then I would be happy to answer them. However, I will not get in the middle of the vendor bashing.

Hello Im thinking that is a Fiberfab Jamican, it is beautiful. Thanks Norm www.normsfiberglass.com
Well, I haven't had a conversion by Archie but I have had dealings with him!
#1 I bought the 2.4 he pulled out of his car when he did his conversion - gave me a great price and gave me all the parts he had.
#2 Met Archie in Kansas City and he is one great guy.
I have recommended Archie to people wanting conversions or kits. My opinion is that he is 'up front', honest and treats people right!
NO2CLETUS must have an agenda! If so - spit it out!
I just sold a my Ferrari replica built on a Fiero with a V8Archie motor swap in it. I did not do the original coversion, but it has certainly stood the test of time. It was originally done around '95. I bought the car in '98 I believe. The car still rocks. It was a sad day watching it drive off a couple weeks ago .
