The new clutch isn't in yet but it has shipped. When we pull the transmission down we're (the NEW shop) going to inspect the install very carefully to see if it was done properly. There could be loose bolts if the installer didn't use loctite on them - and that would cause big vibrations. Spec also said that the billet aluminum flywheel will resonate more sound than the stock unit (but sure shouldn't vibrate).
So, after inspection - if the install looks good and bolts are tight (no obvious errors) I'll assume the Spec stuff is the problem and install the stock flywheel and the GXP clutch. Then I'll need to see if Spec will take their parts back.
Hopefully all is good and I just end up with the new GXP clutch in my collection of parts - or sell on the Forum (GMParts has a 20% re-stock fee).

He's still running a Spec clutch as far as I'm aware. I believe they figured out the flywheel is the problem and a few have had this problem. I'll be getting the clutch but not the flywheel. I believe the GXP clutch would work considering that it's the same transmission and I don't think they offer different clutches for the GXP. I believe aftermarket ones are for either.
Still sitting on the stand with the spare engine & transmission - wiating for me to do something!
Before I have the transmission pulled down and the flywheel changed back - I want to see if I can find someone who can adjust the engine balance shaft & see if that will take the 'harmonic' vibration out.

Id put the Dual mass GXP flywheel in there. It wil take the "harmonic" out of the issue as much as it can be. Dont try and screw with the engine balance shafts. They are there to take care of second order vibrations, not correct small imbalances inteh rotating assembly.
This Is why I NEVER change flywheel/damper on a stock motor. They are dynamic finish-balanced at the factory. When we build a motor they are balanced with the new damper and flywheel attached (and stamped for orientation) for this exact reason

Thanks for the info - I'll go that route! There have been several guys on the forum that 'bought' the billett flywheel/clutch combo and more than one with vibration issues. If the GXP flywheel attached to the Spec stage II clutch will solve the problem - that's the way to go. Otherwise it would be back to installing the GXP clutch as well.
Guess I can use the Fidanza wheel as a pizza rack on my grill!

Looking at part numbers, the slave cyl, flywheel, pressure plate, and clutch are all different between 2.4 n/a and 2.0 turbo. I suspect to play it safe one would need to replace the slave when changing clutch setups (gxp using a n/a setup, or n/a using the gxp setup)
Have you looked at the actual harmonic balancer itself as a potential root of your trouble? And no, you can't install a GXP h.b. on a 2.4 (SD posted pictures somewhere)

The 2.0L and 2.4L engines in the Solstices use the same balancer. At least in 2007, the year checked.
The thread with the posted pictures to was to try to show that the Solstice and Chevrolet Cobalt SS use different balancers.

On another forum I'm a member of, Fidanza's have always rattled and shaked at low RPM. One member had the Fidanza flywheel balanced at a local machine shop and it solved about 90% of the issue. Comments were, almost like stock.
