3rd Annual Dells Weekend - 2008 - Discussion
Ok boys & girls, although all we know is we'll do it one more time.
September 26-28, 2008?
Host Resort: Baker's Sunset Bay, with overflow to Cliffside again?
Should we consider starting on Thursday night, with 28, then 56 this year, there is most certainly the potential of 100 cars next year. This has become a Regional meet, the largest to date outside of the Mecca Tour.
We need input from our 'locals' as well as our repeat offenders, er attendees, as well as folks who would like to come in 2008 and the committee will take everyone's suggestions under advisement.
Tell us, what would you like to see as an 'activity' next year that would make it a can't miss event.

Location: buzzard..what buzzard..do you see a buzzard..I didn't see a buzzard...or that little sparrow either- or dat squirrel
I like the idea of a full day run...followed by shorter (optional) events the next day.
your ideas of incorporating the Winery to a run could be an "optional" for day 2
same with Scavenger hunt......or a Poker Run.
Autocross (blind or otherwise) could be Day 2 also.
I've already heard people say to me ...re T2TR-III.....what are you doing on the Sunday?
without stealing any of your ideas (or thunder) we could try out some of those in May
and add a DAY #2. After all we are one big family and idea-sharing helps us all have a good time at EVERY event
I have the 2008 weekend on my calendar for vacation already!
Another idea would be a rally for one of the days--it would take some coordination, but the motorcyclists do it all the time. Could be a lot of bottles of water sold at some little gas station that issues receipts, a picture at the natural bridges, a culvers's receipt, etc. Just another idea!
I like the thought of a longer run on one day and fun and games on the other day.
Location: buzzard..what buzzard..do you see a buzzard..I didn't see a buzzard...or that little sparrow either- or dat squirrel
I'll repeat what I sent via PM
A TIMED RUN. (kinda like a rally)
you pick out a road course- a loop- of about 10 miles.
Each driver goes out twice.....but not back to back
Driver that gets closest to matching times on both runs WINS !!!
(Version #2)...you do the run in a controlled environment and SET A TIME TO HIT
then drivers get 2 runs to see if they can match that time....again...CLOSEST WINS !!
one other point...the course needs to be rural...no stop lights or towns and few or no stop signs
otherwise you don't get symettrical runs....traffic will do that too you...towns also.

Location: We skipped the light fandango turned cartwheels 'cross the floor I was feeling kinda seasick but the crowd called out for more The room was humming harder as the ceiling flew away When we called out for another drink and the waiter brought a tray.
Of course it goes without saying that I will be "in" as well.
I like the idea of a 3-day event with a Thursday arrival. There are tons of roads I am seeing northwest of the area that certainly look "twistie" on a map. I'd be willing to run a 3rd day route as well or expand out day 1 or 2.
A timed event would be fun - maybe something up and down county PF (ask the Valleys, both their friends (we know they have 2 at least ), and UP Marie about our "free lance" return trip up PF! ). No stops, no lights, all winding - a great out-and-back run from North Freedom south to the Land Bridge Park!!
A twilight "cruise" at reduced speed with multiple picture stops (both scenery and cars) would also be something nice to add. A good amount of action pics can get blury quickly so some "staged" shots may be a good change. Heck, could win us an award or Kappasphere goodies!
Maybe a "casino night" at Ho-Chunk for those interested.
Definite wine tasting at Wollershiem - D-2 made an excellent call with that request on group #1's route!!

One other idea...I know Harley folks will occassionally do a "Honda drop".
Anyone have an old Fiero we could catapult into the lake...?

Keith wondered if one of a dealership along one of the routes (we saw a Pontiac dealer on 12, I believe) would be willing to host us all for lunch on one of the days, since we could bring a representation of nearly every color and option to the dealership. I'm sure we'd end up there for more like an hour, but we might get a free lunch and the dealer would get an unrivaled selection of cars for prospective buyers to look at.
Count us in for the full weekend, including early arrival Thursday. We like all the suggestions/activities so far...would we be out of line if we suggested doing something in the way of a Charity? Oh, and I have an ex-brother-in-law w/ a burnt up Fiero!

Ya got about 11 months, think you can come up with something unique again??
If'n I try real hard, I just might come up with a whole new approach!
I kinda went with a bat outta hell look for 2007. We'll see what theme begins to surface as we (I say we, as I am up for helping out next year) get into planning in 2008.

So much we could do to one of those little bars of soap (that's what they look like to me). Hmmm... if we stuffed it full of paper and wood, set it on fire and pushed it into the lake, we could see how long it would burn before sinking.

All excellent ideas so far! Keep thinking out loud, definitely I think we should look at probably SGK, for our charity, Thought about something this year, but didn't think we could raise enough with only 56 cars there, and not all present all the time.
A free day for free range roaming to local tourist traps, er, no, they're local tourist traps, or riding the Ducks, perhaps a run down to the winery, hit the casino if that's what you like to do, go hiking in one of the State Parks, Devils Lake comes to mind. There is a diversity of things to do, no matter what you're interested in! And if it's just hanging out at the pool, that works too!!

Hmmm... if folks would be interested, I could probably be talked into organizing a sunset drive up Lake Shore Drive on that Thursday as part of the "scenic" travel route for those who might be interested. Meet in Soldier Field's lot and organize lunch for the group at a restaurant on the route at some point. I'm sure I could get a hand organizing that from the active Chicago area Sol-Sky folks.
Watcha think?
