Hi Guys,
Sorry I have not been around but robot and crew season is/was upon me. My robot team finished 6 out of 36 in Pittsburgh and Michaels (SoCoolJr) Crew races. They are New Jersey Scholastic Boys Freshman 8 Champions. All of this pales in relation to an experience I had last Thursday Night. A FIRST Robotics Team from Israel was visiting Pittsburgh and I was helping to give the Team (19 kids and 5 adults) their first American Bar-B-Que. When they arrived SoCool was parked with the top up and every member of the team gathered around for a look, I did not let on whose car it was but it generated alot talk from what I could gather. After eating and socializing I asked the team leader (high school senior) if he would like a ride in the Solstice, he thought I was kidding but I assured him I was not.
Long story short I took 24 rides that evening and each one was more meaningful than the next. It seems that cars in Israel command a 100% TAX, gas is very expensive and there are no convertibles (or sports cars) in their Northern town. These kids just closed their eyes and put their heads back and enjoyed the experience. By the end of the evening everyone had a chance to ride and I was sufficiently humbled to realize how fortunate I am to have the life I have and car I have.
I miss my friends and look forward to re-establishing contact once my being a crew parent is over for the year.
Mike
