MEET: NOON OCTOBER 17, 2009 at the Dickey Ridge Visitor Center

Enter the North Gate of Skyline Drive in Front Royal, VA (pay $15 Entrance Fee) and proceed 5 miles to the Dickey Ridge Visitor Center.

Dinner will be at South River Grill, Exit 94 in Waynesboro, VA following the cruise.

Skyline Drive is a 105 mile (169 km) road that runs the entire length of the Shenandoah National Park in the Appalachian Mountains of Virginia. Construction on the road began in 1931 and was completed in 1939. Since then it has been treating visitors to spectacular views of the Appalachian Mountains.

The Blue Ridge forms the eastern rampart of the Appalachians. The Skyline Drive runs along the Blue Ridge at an elevation of 2700-3000 feet (822-915 m). The photo was taken at the Rockytop Overlook where the elevation was 2860 feet (870 m).

The best time to go there is in the fall when the leaves are changing color. Obviously by mid-November the trees have lost their leaves but it is no less spectacular for it.

These mountains are among the highest that the east coast United States has to offer.

$15 per vehicle
Valid for single, private, non-commercial vehicles such as passenger cars, pickup trucks,
RVs, vans, and converted busses. Valid for the day of purchase and the next six days.

OMG! Joanne doesn't have to work that weekend

She has to work the weekend of Halloween though. I guess we won't be going to Vegas for my daughters birthday. We went last year and it was something else...
