On December 15th there will be a wreath-laying event at Arlington National Cemetery as part of Wreaths Across America
It starts at 0830 with a welcome brief and ends at 1200 with a wreath-laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
I'm planning on attending in my Dress Blues and am thinking of getting some Marines and Sailors from work to attend as well.
I also encourage others outside the VA/DC/MD area to attend an event in their area as there are several events taking place on the same day at locations Nation-Wide

They will be laying wreaths at the Viet Nam Memorial this Sunday for Veterans day as well.
Here is how the Arlington wreath ceremony started:
The Arlington Story - How the Arlington Wreath Project was born
Worcester Wreath and its involvement with the Arlington project was inspired at the early age of 12 years old when, as a Bangor Daily News paper boy, Morrill Worcester won a trip to the Nation’s Capital. It was a trip he would never forget, and Arlington National Cemetery (Official Site)made an indelible impression. In later life, he recognized that his success as a businessman was in large part, due to the values of this Nation and the Veterans who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country.Th
In 1992, the Wreath Company found themselves with an excess of wreaths nearing the end of the holiday season. Seeing an opportunity to make a boyhood dream a reality, efforts to do something special with those wreaths began in earnest. With the help of Maine Senator Olympia Snowe, arrangements were made for the wreaths to be placed at Arlington in one of the older sections of the cemetery, a section which received fewer visitors with each passing year.
With plans underway, a number of other participants began their support for the project. James Prout, owner of Blue Bird Ranch, Inc generously provided and transportation all the way to Virginia. Volunteers from the local American Legion and VFW Posts gathered with members of the community to decorate each wreath with signature red, hand-tied bows. Member of the Maine State Society of Washington, DC and John Metzler, Jr, Superintendent of Arlington National Cemetery worked to organize the wreath-laying, including the incorporation of a special ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
Now fifteen years and over 60,000 wreaths later, the original group has been joined by many others who participate in the project each year. After learning of the annual trek to Arlington to honor our fallen heroes, Larry Ross, an elementary school teacher from Canaan, Maine, has taken several groups of his students to help with the wreath-laying.
My heart will be with you even if I don't make it.

Arlington Cemetery is a location that every American should visit at least once in their lifetime. My brother served in the Old Guard while in the Army. The Old Guard is who stands watch at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Just before my brother was discharged from the Army, President Kennedy was killed. My brother stood death watch over President Kennedy's casket. He was discharged a week after the funeral. When we went to pick him up, he took us on a tour of Arlington. I was young at the time, but the importance of Arlington still left an strong impression upon me. Years later I went back and took my wife and three daughters with me. My daughters acted differently than I had ever seen them act before. It was as if they were being spoken to by the markers. They quietly walked from marker to marker reading names, dates and information. I pointed out to them the references for medal of honor holders. There was a funeral being held in another part of Arlington and we were able to hear the bugler playing taps. We were all in tears. It was impossible not to be caught up in the emotions of the event. My children will never forget Arlington and I would imagine that someday they will bring their children back to walk through the markers the same as we did. It is truly a humbling experience.

I am a member of Rolling Thunder I get invited to far more funerals at ANC than work allows me to attend. It is overwhelming to attend a funeral for a vetrean who died in 1969 and his remains have finally come home. I am very proud to be invited to attend these funerals I wish I could attend more. God Bless all who have served, I am a vet and my son is active duty as is my girlfriends son. GOD BLESS THIS GREAT COUNTRY!
