I might have some mods for my Vette to bring down to join in on the fun....
I'll most likely be arriving friday as well. I'm going to be buying a porter cable with tons of stuff too, so provided i get them before the mod meet, that'll be another buffer on site.
Sounds good, what products for the porter cable did you purchase?
Check out the Edge pad system for the Porter Cable, it's on the Autogeek website. I MUCH prefer it to the pads that fly off, the pads are double sided and are easier to use. I gave away all my old pads I like it so much, NO VELCRO!

well, haven't bought them yet, but probably going to buy a kit that comes with the buffer and some pads.
I also plan on getting a bunch of the poor boys stuff.
Lilgoat - why do you prefer those pads? is it just the attachment, or do they actually perform better?

Do you want me to point you in the right direction as far as stuff that I use?
sure, i was just going to buy a few different things. Aside from the pads, i was going to pick up Poor boy's SR1, 2, 2.5, Pro Polish, EX-P sealant, Spray and Glass.
Not sure if I just want to leave it with sealant, or if I should get a wax also. What do you think?
I'm not sure i'd need SR3....kinda doubt it.

I started out with the normal pads and the Velcro, hard to get pads on center, the pads fly off the adapter gets hot and wears out, this happened to Go-N Def too. The pads are the same material, they are just easier to use and don't come off and have 2 sides, you can also use the edges of the pad for small places like around the mirror. Are they better, no they are the same exact pads just a different mounting that I like a lot better. Joe can show you how to use them just the same as the other. There is also a big brother called a Flex buffer available, that someone like Joe could make good use of.

EDIT: Looking at the pads, they have "Wavy" pads. Which would you prefer. The kit above comes with the flat normal pads.

I tried the wavy pads with my old system, wasn't a big fan because the kept wanting to fly off. Not an issue with the edge so they may work well. I doubt you will need a yellow pad on your car, I have one I used on my truck it will really get the deep stuff out but then you have to get out the scratchs it makes. edge makes a ton of stuff they don't sell on Autogeek too, they will make pads up by request, there wool pads are supposed to be really good but I am not to the point to know what to do with them, and why I would want them instead of foam.

I was going to pick up a yellow because I'm doing some detailing on the side. I want one just in case i get some tough swirls or something to get out. Then follow up with some of the softer pads until its out.

Yellow is a last resort, first rule of buffing use the least agressive pad you can. I HAD to use a yellow pad and it worked, then I spent quite some time buffing out what the yellow pad did. I love Poorboys products but have found a polish from 3m I like better for the nasty stuff, it is pretty agressive but it is easy to bring back. I got it at an auto body supply store, Swirl mark and scratch remover, not the same stuff the sell at Autozone. It is paint shop safe as it leaves no residue. I think Autogeek may sell it. It really mkes the clear coat pop.

I'll be bringing my porter cable buffer and Poor Boys stuff to the meet up as well.
Here is the stuff I recommend, (Colors are for the lake country pads)
Antonio You want a bunch of white pads (2-3 at least) You will use these most often [polishing, SSR1]. You will also need a few, though not as many, orange pads 1-2 [SSR 1-2.5]. 1 yellow pad [really heavy scratches] , 1-2 black [sealant or galzes] and 1 blue pad [last stage product/wax]. That should be good enough to get you going and cover all your bases.
As for Poor Boys stuff I would recommend:
Pro polish
SSR 1, 2, 2.5
( SSR 3 behaves like a compound and usu requires several passes with a lower # to look good, and as you said probably not needed right now)
Ex-P Sealant
Spray and Wipe (great quick detail and clay bar lubricant) buy a 16 oz spray bottle and a gallon to refill it with. I use it all the time.

Edge uses the same color code as Lake county, I have red too, for final finish. The softest pad. Some Poor Boys Natty paste is good too.
