I've never done it. Looks like it will take one piece to cover the hole and other parts that fell down.
Oh, BTW, I got your PM and don't worry about anything. Just get ceiling fixed.

CT - Get a long straight edge and a sharp bladed cutter. Find the middle of the support beam and cut the good drywall around the hole along the center of the beam all the way around the damaged area. If there is no cross bracing you might want to install a short piece of bracing on either side of the hole to hold your repair.

Cut your wall board to fit this new clean edged hole with minimal open space 1/16 or less all around. Use dry wall screws to mount the patch. fill the gap with drywall compound and then layer a strip of dry wall tape over that, put a thin coat of compound on that. Let dry and sand.

Now is the hard work using a wide blade 12-16" layer a new coat of compound over the seam. Use only one strock from one end to the other. let dry and sand. Repeat until you are happy with the seam. Primer the dry wall and then paint.

Just don't step there....Ooooops

Use google and search on it... here is one example
Repairing Drywall - Large Piece

One piece of personal advise, that I learned from the guy that build a career plastering/repairing the Pentigon - know going into it: just put the first layer of mud down and don't sand too much of it off, you will need at least three coats of mud building up off that first layer (otherwise you'll keep sanding into the tape).

Have fun, R1chy

Thanks for the advice. Looks like Sunday will be the only clear day to use my friends truck to head to the hardware store. The good part was the repair will be in the garage and doesn't have to be perfect. Have a great time. I'll set up the dvr for whatever channel is doing the parade and keep an eye out for everyone.

Car Wash?

Susan, do you know if there is a car wash nearby? Don't know what your weather is like. Supposed to rain down this way Sat. night. Anyway, wife and I are headed up to Pa. to get a real Phily chesse steak sandwich before comming back to Alex. And I am faily sure we are gonna run into some rain Sat. somewhere. If you don't know, don't worry about it, will find one somewhere.

Yes, there is one on Van Dorn. Take 395 to Duke Street East, veer right on Van Dorn after the first light, third light make U turn and it's on the corner.

Hope you all had a great time. I told my wife around 11:30 as the sun came out and the wind went away that you should have a great parade. Did you find a way to clean the cars or did you go road-sprayed? Any chance of a re-do for the Cherry Blossom Festival?

Oh, and none of the local channels showed the parade, so I would love to see some pictures. Thanks.
