Steph, it really isn't all that difficult or time consuming from what I remember. Check this out. Your friend should be able to do it. If you need help just le me know.

Sunday, February 10, 2008, a day that will live in Infamy! (For Reed anyway because his car got clobbered again and now he goes around muttering "Infamy. They've got it in for me!").
LISSC held it's monthly breakfast meeting at the Nautilus Restaurant (simply fabulous! Try the veal.) in Massapequa Park, NY. (Except for Paula, who did a Superbowl style wing picking thing) After several futile attempts (Ivan was telling a story), 1sgtCalled the Meeting to Order at 10:25 AM.
Attending were longislander, maxblast, Pep (x2), two-wheeler (x3), 1sgt, SolsticeSJA, Lil'Oggi (only the big one), and the always fashionably late ReedRed. Missing were those people who promised to come but got sugarplummed by an ill timed weather report. The winds of hell weren't actually loosed for hours.
The Events Calendar was discussed, including agreement to hold a re-run of this club's inaugural run, The Sag Harbor Run. Two dates were briefly discussed, April 13th. and 20th. The 13th. was immediately scrapped for it's proximity to tax day. Barry thought it would make a fitting post tax season reward for him on the 20th., and there was general approbation. Chris suggested we set up a "sticky", an announcement thread for sign-ups, here on the forums, and volunteered to do so. 1sgt gave Lil'Oggi the password to also post it on the GM Roadster calendar. This will be a new thing to try so we can generate automatic participant lists. Posts on the LI Thread will direct everyone to the appropriate sign up areas.
The Mecca Reunion Tour, run by JustMike, can be found HERE. This is the Wilmington factory tour. Discussion, sign-ups, and hotel accomodations can all be located on that thread. The discussion of this item was to remind everyone that it comes up on May 9th. and that some of our group plan to drive down together. To that end, we will once again post a "sticky" and a calendar item on GMR.
1sgt reminded us that on May 18, the Pontiac GTO Show will be held in Northport, at 8AM. Our new dealer affiliation, Raymond Pontiac, will make it's official presence felt with sales personnel and some cars. Apparently he has arranged for our cars to be part of their display. (Guess I'd better take off that Dave Arbogast Pontiac sticker. ) The show will be held at Crabmeadow Beach. This item will be added to the GMR calendar.
The Summer Solstice Run, known officially as MASSC 2008 SKYLANDS RALLY - Perfect Together, is set to go on Saturday, June 21 and Sunday, June 22, 2008 (Hey, isn't that the actual Solstice?!?! Is it?) Sign-ups should be done on-thread, but we will start a list for those from LI who would like to run there together.
Follow-up.
Barry (longislander) consulted an attorney and gave him copies of the releases for the Vegas Nationals and for our own Gold Coast Run. Of special interest were the "hold harmless" agreements contained in each. Apparently, the worst fears of some of our members regarding these clauses are justified. (Where were you on your day of validation, Dan? You certainly were there to take enough abuse earlier!) The lawyer confirmed that holding each other harmless might cause us more harm than good. He also agreed that the Nationals waiver is a mess. A short discussion ensued in which there was general agreement that we'd be better off not acting in public as a club, but as individuals. Both Maxblast and Richfly wanted to forego any documents that tied us together, as they felt a paper trail opened up legal connections. Lil'Oggi argued that those connections may already exist or might be imputed to exist and that taking pro-active control by establishing limitations in advance may afford us more protection in the future. Lil'Oggi will consult privately with his attorney to examine these issues and will report back to the group, possibly at the next regular meeting.
The meeting was closed with a group hug (awwww) at 11:00 AM. Then everyone went outside to marvel at the warm sunshine, Reeds top-down perfect (for five minutes, anyway) car, and Ivan's new door handles and license plate. NOTE: It is not true that somebody graffitti'd Rich's GXP. Turns out it's something he bought and put on the windshield.
Respectfully submitted, I remain yr. humble yada, yada, yada.

From discussions with my attorney, Lil'Oggi is correct, we can already be identified as a group or club by the trails we leave behind... like this thread for one. So the legal connections are already there.
Even so, there doesn't seem to be a need for any kind of waiver or agreement between us. Being in a club doesn't alter insurance coverage in any way. At least not mine. I checked with State Farm and I'm covered in every conceivable scenario of my club membership and activity(s).
It is also clear State Farm is dead set against me assuming any liability or signing away any rights to claim damages. They even claim it forbids me to do so in my insurance contracts, but I have yet to find any passage(s) to that effect.
Granted, there are a lot of insurance papers, the printing is INCREDIBLY small and I'm not all that motivated to get out my magnifying glass to find the passage(s), because I agree with them and would not sign anything anyway.
Nice synopsis, BTW. The humorous comments make me feel like I was there.
