I've got a noise. It seems to come from under the front driver's side when I go over bumps. The noise started when I went over a railroad crossing a couple of weeks back. It has gotten progressively worse until, this morning, I heard it over every little road imperfection.
It sounded, at first, like a squeaky suspension part needing lube. Later it sounded like a piece of flapping sheet metal hanging by one bolt and clattering around.
This morning, I took it to my local repair shop and we put Lil'Oggi up on the lift. (And I do mean we. I used my new hockey pucks in the rear and then set up the front lift arms w/o the pucks to just clear the body metal. Where the mechanic wanted to put the front lift arms may not have been the best idea.)
There was nothing obvious to see. In fifteen minutes of tapping, prodding and poking, shaking, wiggling and eyeballing, we uncovered nothing loose, shaky or noise producing.
We lowered the car and took it for a ride. Not a peep came out of it. No sounds, no squeals, no rattles.
I believe, as a result of thinking about that, that I now know what it is, and I expect it to return. In fact, driving it thirty miles showed that the problem had reverted to the way it was when I first heard it. (A small squeal on very heavy bumps only.)
I'm putting it out here for discussion like this to see if great minds think alike before I make the appointment in Riverhead.
Chris, sounds to me like you have one of those demon problems that come and go, especially when you take it to the mechanic, are all of the plastic wheel well parts tight? Also sometimes those rubber bushings make noise when they get a little worn, and on the lift they still feel tight. It's tuff to tell what could be wrong without actually hearing the noise and isolating where it came from. These cars are snapped together with those stupid little snap buttons, mine are always working themselves loose. Also some GXP's have had problems with thier shocks,I'm sure you'll figure out what's wrong...
Not too much. I didn't run right off to the body shop to get the door ding fixed. Good thing, since now they can fix the scrape from the boulder while it's there.

That really stinks, don't you wish they could make an undentable car...
My last one was dent-resistant, and the gaps between panels were ridiculous during winter. Metal looks soooo much better, but I guess dings are the price we have to pay for beauty.

Oggi I had this same problem fixed at the dealer...it is the sway bar bushings in the front. There is a TSB on it...the dealer will replace the with the newer ones and the squeak will be gone. This was written on my repair invoice: Repair Front Stabilizer Links as per TSB 07 03 08 003
Well, Reed and Spiky say sway-bar bushings. I expected Spiky to agree with Pep on front shocks. You had those replaced, didn't you Steve? (The left front at 8386 miles. I just checked.)
I figured shocks (sounds like the left front) because after the front suspension hung down on the lift for 15-20 minutes, the shocks had been stretched out to their maximum travel and the fluid (or gas) had displaced completely to the opposite side of the piston.
Should shocks or bushings be wearing out in 8000 miles? That's all Lil'O has.
No Chris, they should'nt be wearing out at 8000 miles, but bushings sometimes do get sloppy especially when you do a lot of hard cornering or curves, and that's what we do... As for the shocks some have had problems with them leaking on the GXP's,note your shocks are different than mine on the N/A yours are stiffer from what they say anyway,if you put the two side by side they look identical to me...
