Pep: This more a financial decision than anything else. By the time you finish with a turbo install, you'll spend at least 5 grand, probably 6. Your car is what . . . 2 years old? Adding the turbo may increase it's value, but it may not. It all depends on how potential buyers view a modified car. As it is, virtually stock, it's saleable to a wide base of buyers. You can always remove your CAI and any other EZ mods to restore the total stock appearance and get the full Kelly Blue Book for it. I never recommend trade-ins because I think you get screwed on them, but it is unlikely a dealer would accept a trade-in if you add the turbo.

On the warranty side there are two things to consider. The engine/drive-train warranty may not be honored once the turbo is in. Also, your car is a pre-2008 and is subject to all the early version problems such as rear end venting and some bushing problems that there have been service bulletins about.

A GXP doesn't just give you a turbo. It gives you the racing suspension that your car does not have and which costs 2 grand for the parts alone. It also gives you the improved gear ratio in the transmission to get rid of that long flat spot in your 2-3 shift. That's worth nearly 2 grand as well.

If you sell your car privately, then buy the GXP, you'll end up with a 2009 car (or even a 2008 leftover that comes with a discount) that has ALL the bells and whistles and all the improvements generated over the last two years. You'll get an opportunity to specify options you might like to have, like the Monsoon sound system, XM radio, On*Star, the DIC, leather interior, chrome wheels, whatever. You'll get new unidirectional Eagle F-1's. You'll get a new battery, new brakes, new fully insulated top, new everything. How about a new paint job in your choice of color? You'll get a new warranty that covers all of it. You will spend maybe 10 grand.

If you modify your current car to approach the specs of the new car, you still spend 10 grand, but you end up with a two, going on three year old, highly modified Solstice N/A with questionable saleability and a warranty that may or may not cover the drive train, but no matter, because it's running out in two years anyway.

People develop emotional attachments, not just to other people, but to animals, houses and cars. Sometimes, you have to step back and say, "It's just a car. Metal, rubber, wires and pistons." I believe that the best financial decision you can make is to upgrade the whole car, not just a part of it. Later, you can add mods anyway, but at this crossroad, I think your clearly better choice is to sell and re-buy.

Chris

Well said Chris, I agree totally. In the end it dos`nt pay to add all that when you can get a NEW car and a 5 YEAR warranty, with all the good stuff already installed, plus I really think the GXP will have a much better resale. But in the end Joe it`s your decision. I`m very happy with my car as you know.

Thanks for your thought's guys ,I really appreciate it, when you cover all angles of the situation it makes you feel better with what ever decision you make, if it were just penny's on a dollar I would not care, but this is thousands of dollars, which make the decision even harder especially with today's economy if you know what I mean. When I bought my car the Gxp was so hard to get, so I pulled the trigger on the n/a because I fell in love with it the first time I drove it, a year later they are throwing Gxp's at you at the same price I payed for my car, I always screw myself like that, (patience is virtiue)I should have waited but I thought I could live with less horse power. Now I feel like I have to start all over again ,with payments, and let's not forget taking a loss at the same time.I was eye balling a porsche boxer sport edition at the time used for the same money, but I figured new is better.Sometimes that's not always true!!!!

Oh, and for the warranty it's great, but everybody in the forum is always upset when they have to go back to the dealer for service, because they are affraid they are going to mess up their cars, so what good is it then..... The resale on the Gxp isn't that great either...

True, but when you really have a big problem, it`s nice to know they`ll fix it sooner or later. And your right about the resale now, but years from now the GXP will be alot more desirable, hence a better deal now and in the future.

Would you be interested in a 2008 red GXP with 600 miles on it for 27,000 if they throw in a free BSR tune?

Look at this thread, NOW.

Ivan, I was just on Hahns website checking out their turbo systems and I'm interested in what they have to offer, I'm trying to see what's my best route, whether I should pull the trigger on a GXP or work with what I have, trading in mine for a GXP is the easy route but I will really hate to lose all that money just to gain a turbo, and considering my car is almost paid off is such a waste. Are you totally happy with your turbo and do you consider it totally reliable? The supercharger is out only because I don't want to hear the constant whistle all the time and the turbo is more quiet.Your honest opinion of what you think of the hahn system since you have it will definitely help. Please no jokes guys I'm serious about it....I'm going to make a decision at the end of the year of what I want to do.

Chris you have some valid points there but you are concentrating on resale. If Pep is thinking like me, I am not thinking of getting rid of this car any time soon and or ever. It is one of the first and that in itself down the road has some value if not monetary definitely sentimental. Who can put a price on sentimental. Yes it's only a car to some but it is the car to others. JMHO.

Good point, but if Pep is weighing the choice between selling and modding, then resale value must be considered. Not everybody loves their little hunny like you do.
