It took today off and drove out to Montauk Point. The route checks out fine. Nice turns, canopied sections of road. I think you guys will like it.
The back roads were wide open. I'll check out the run again this Sunday to make sure it's still good on a weekend day. If anyone wants to come along, the more the merrier.
The towns were packed! Even on Monday. I suggest we skip the towns thing and take back roads both ways. Some overlap of the route can not be helped, but most of it will be different coming and going. We can schedule a "See the Hampton towns run" after Labor Day. Another good excuse for a run.
Let me say this right now. NOTHING is going to beat 1sgt's run... NOTHING. So let's not have any comparisons, OK? I really, really think you'll like it, but if you compare it to our first run, it can do nothing but come up short. That first run was special in so many ways.
For luck, let's start out the same way. Same place, same time, same launch time.
We'll meet at 8AM on Sunday, July 22nd, at the Starbucks in Medford. It's on the East side of Route 112. South of the LIE off exit 64.
Launch time is 8:30AM sharp. Even though 1sgt isn't running this one, we're still on military time in his honor, buckaroos! Hopefully he'll join us as a passenger.
I'll hand out maps at Starbucks. Please have a full tank of gas and take care of "business" at the Starbucks before we launch. Next stop: MONTAUK POINT!
It took me almost exactly 1.5 hours today. I DO NOT expect the back roads to be as clear as they were today. I'm thinking it will take 2 hours or a little more.
Is 2 hours too long without a bathroom break? If so, we can stop in East Hampton for a bathroom break. They have public (clean) toilets in town with sufficient parking. 1sgt says: "Don't forget the bathroom breaks!"
After the Point, we'll hit Gosman's Dock for lunch. It has shops for the shoppers and beer on tap for the rest of us.
Gosman's Dock has a huge parking lot. We should be able to get spots and keep our cars protected. I'll check that again this Sunday as well.
Pictures of the place and menus can be seen at www.gosmans.com. Don't worry Ivan. You're covered. I ate there today. The have a wide variety. I thinkg everyone should be able to find something to their liking, but if that's not the case, please speak up.
We have a choice of eating outside (order our food at an outdoor bar and get it on trays) or inside and be served. I vote outside because it was really wonderful outside today. If we want inside to sit down and be served, Gosman's wants us to call the day of the run, between 10AM and 10:30AM for reservations. That works out very well, because we'd have a good handle on time and how many we have.

Hi all you LI'ers .... good to see you're having fun together!
This thread seems to be growing tremendously and takes a very long time to load. May I suggest that we (the mods) split the most current discussion of your last run out into a new thread, close the old one down, and new ones be created for all future runs and/or social events?
We have done this with many of the very LARGE threads in order to help the membership with server speed and the loading of threads.
IF this would be a problem please let me know via PM ....
I will wait until next week to prune if the consensus is to do so. TIA!
Moms I kinda like our how the wheel turns tread. IMHO And if your calling for a vote we move slow and drive fast
And don't' ya know us Long Islanders have the worlds fastest Internet and movie stars.
GESSSSSSS First time in the thirty years I've lived on this sand bar I have called myself a Long Islander.
Must be due to Dan's exceptional run

Moms I like the way we keep up with our thread. It's like reading a book with always something being added to it. If I'm away for a while I just go back where I left off and catch up. I always live by, "If it ain't broke don't fix it"!

Hey Kathy,
IMO I think if you could take away maybe the first 40 pages or so and leave the 'more recent' stuff that would be great I know i have slow loading on this and Song Title rocks now that it's been restarted. Guys we can still access the old threads if they shut it you just have to post to the new one.

Hi max ..... I agree, trouble is - it is broke (in a way) because of its size it is bogging down the server AND loading slowly on many peoples less than rapid computers.
What if I do as Steph suggested - go back 40-60 posts, pull those into Long Island II, lock this one down for reference (thus saving #1 for history ) and speeding things up?
I'll wait until tomorrow around 1'ish to pare the thread unless anyone comes up with a really good reason not to.
