MASC would like to invite all Solstice and Sky owners to join us for our 3rd Annual Regional Meet & Greet which will be held on the Summer Solstice in the Skylands region of NJ.Saturday, June 21 and Sunday, June 22, 2008
Diane & I are planning the route & itinerary which includes (as a point of interest) NJ's very own "Solstice Stones" Tripod Rock at Pyramid Mountain. However, they are a mile inland so we don't know if anyone is going to want to make this trek.
Quote:
Park personnel believe that Tripod Rock is glacial but their opinion about the two smaller ones is ambiguous. "We believe the Solstice Stones were placed there by Native Americans because it was probably a ceremonial site. The sun sets between those two rocks." The Solstice Stones each sit on three small rocks, forming small tripod rocks, just like the big one nearby. You can sit on a certain cleft rock behind the two Solstice Stones and watch the sun set between them on the summer solstice. The fourth tripod-in-the-making has one or two stones under it and appears to be waiting for a third to officially make it a tripod rock. The curious can take a park-run Summer Solstice Hike on June 21 from 7 to 9pm and watch the sun set. Registration and $3 required. Everyone should know these rocks exist in NJ.
We also plan on stopping at Wild West City for some shoot 'em up cowboy fun and an authentic group picture which will be submitted for the "western themed" 2009 Solstice/Sky National calendar. The calendar will benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure. I'm negotiating the group admission since we won't be there all day. Right now, we plan to take the pictures between 9:45am and 10:30am; we may not be charged admission since it's being done before the doors open to the general public. Wild West City is over 50 years old and is styled after Dodge City, circa 1880. It looks old, it feels old and it is old but I'm older. I don't want to mislead anyone into thinking that it is a new style Disney type of amusement park. It isn't.
Friday night:
For those of us who are coming in Friday night, we'll be having dinner at the Black River Barn. Here's a web review - Black River Barn
Afterward, we'll be holding a lottery to see who gets to bring their cars into Wild West City for the calendar picture. Only two are allowed.
Update:
These are a few of the hotel choices in the Mt. Arlington area. (Two of them are right down the street from dengel's house! ) I blocked off 10 rooms at the Holiday Inn for Saturday, 6/21 and Sunday 6/22. The hotel is newly renovated and the general manager Kevin Steib asks that reservations be made by June 5th. The price is discounted to $102 if you prepay. Mention MASSC if you call. Buffet breakfast is included. If you are a member with the Marriot chain, their hotel is right across the street.
We'll be meeting in the Holiday Inn Express parking lot at 9am on Saturday morning.
We need to be at Wild West City by 9:30am.

Can't we have it week later on my birthday? Let me know if you guys (or gals as it were) need a hand in getting things together. I would be willing to help out as needed.

As posted in the Skyroadster forum we are tentatively saying yes to this run and will know better next year. Sounds like a real nice run. And with a lot of the same gang going that we met on the Hudson Valley Sky & Solstice Autumn Leaf Run & BBQ it's sure to be great!
