TWISTING TO THE RIVER 2008
MAY 03, 2008
It wasn't broken, but we jazzed up the start and moved the date.
The NEO SOS will still be a local event -----but T2TR-III will be the PREMIERE SPRING EVENT FOR KAPPAS east of the Mississippi !!!!! (but open to everyone of course)
*****************
200 miles of the nastiest twisties in OHIO..followed by a magnificent dinner buffet at the RAVEN'S GLEN WINERY
This is an all day event.
You may wish to re-view last year's thread too (see link in signature)
SOME THINGS HAVE CHANGED
Start & Finish is Newcomerstown Ohio ( I-77 @ SR 36.... I-77 mm65)
We have rooms reserved at both the HAMPTON INN ($69.00) {740.498.9800}
and the SUPER 8 Motel ($68.00) {740.498.4116}
The dinner buffet menu is still in the planning stage but the price will be under $25.00 (actually set at $20.00 now) all inclusive (dinner+tax+tip)
There is also a wine tasting room and the option to buy some bottles to take home.
Here is the majority of route..(we are still tweaking the middle) for you GPS Addicts
We congregate in the truck stop parking lot behind McDonald's on SR36..Leave parking lot and left onto E State St (CR 15)...follow it 2 miles west to Newcomerstown bridge
Left (East) onto SR258. Follow 258 to West Chester and then onto SR 342...then into Freeport...down SR800 (south) 3 miles to US22...East 8 miles on US22 to the top of SR513 ...........this is all the new beginning
Then ....SR513 south to SR78 (this is a great road with lots of twisties to keep you in the mood)
...East on SR78 to Woodsfield ( this is a tranquil 4 lane drive of 17 miles)
(we may be adding a few miles of twisties here..as we have been told this road is "boring" )
Once we get to Woodsfield we drop down to SR26.
We now do 50 miles of some high end twisties including a stop at the covered bridge for a photo shoot.
We dump out into Marietta around 12 noon for lunch. Can be Appleby's or Wendy's etc.
After lunch a quiet and scenic river road drive of 20 miles down SR7 westbound to SR555
That's where the fun begins. The next 90 minutes is your bone-rattling, teeth jarring
stomach turning twisties. (Do not eat chili for lunch - or drink chocolate milk...right Zolsol?) SR555 was repaved so it is now a ribbon of black velvet & much tighter and faster than before.
When you can't take any more...we dump out onto I-70 again at Zanesville..follow it east for 8 miles to SR83.....north on 83 to SR209...and East on SR209 for about 7 miles till we get to the bottom of "662" also known as BUZZARDS RUN !!!...This road is 8 miles of thrill a minute. Upon completion of SR662 we will climb back up SR93 (north)...east on SR751 and back onto SR36 EASTbound...and back to the hotels for a brief break.
Dinner is 7:30 at the winery ( 6 miles west of the hotels on SR36)
Friday night dinner for all early arrivals will be at the WAREHOUSE in Coshocton !!!!
Approximate driving times to get to the start are under 2 hours from Cleveland or Columbus or Pittsburgh.
All others are encouraged to make their reservations now. We have 50 rooms reserved...25 at each hotel.
This thread is now open for discussion and questions.

this run does NOT work well with a daisy chain of 50 cars
optimum is 10
So if we get 70 cars...I'm gonna need 7 dedicated Road Captains and 7 dedicated Sweepers.
That means people taking the time to come to Southern Ohio several times to learn the course. GPS is great...but it is primarily 2-dimensional...
Matt you know from July that those blind rises are nasty...and only repeat runnings will familiarize people with the route.
Remember "SAFETY IS OUR MAIN RESPONSIBILITY" so we have to have Road Captains who will be certain to guide their group to a happy ending.
I wish I were more local...I would be happy to help lead. But 600 miles a few times is a lot of miles. But yes, I completely agree that the blind rises can get ya quick if you don't react fast. The worst is coming up over a hill, the tires coming up, and then seeing the curve with tires still midair hoping that front drops before the turn. Then as you rip the steering wheel sideways you slide around hoping that you stay on pavement as the tires screetch. Wow...run of a lifetime!!
