bottom line....one person must deal with the facilities, a single point of contact who will sign the contract when the time comes.....there will probably be lead times as to when you must commit.....so be prepared for that....planning times have increased each year that I have seen the NASSM grow.....and of course....the more folks you have.....the more detailed the planning factors........just some thoughts for consideration here...
Good points Paul. The larger you expect the event to be, the earlier you have to make a commitment for the facility. Getting 15 to 20 rooms is a whole lot easier than getting 150 to 200 or more. Same thing goes for a sit-down dinner\banquet facility.
Another stat to look for from previous events that will help in planning is the ratio of attendees per car to use in estimating seats needed for a dinner\awards banquet.

Good point in the second paragraph (not that the first isn't good as well). I've started to work on this with some PM's to past organizers.
I appreciate all of the comments and suggestions I've seen in this thread. Some of this work is being done currently to plan out a possible event to present to the masses, other suggestions are new and will be worked on.
At this point the committee is working on basic organization of the committee, general plans, and possible trips / events for the meet. The comments about the side trips and people putting their own stuff together is dead on, I saw this in Nashville... and did this in Nashville. Still we need to plan a driving event, a cruising event (for the more relaxed paced folks), and even possibly an event that has nothing to do with driving, vendors, clinics, car show, all sorts of things that we can do.
As druid-2 has pointed out, it's an open discussion, and I certainly appreciate the support, comments, and suggestions, and trust me... we have thick skins, but will listen to the suggestions and decide what we can do and do well for all to enjoy!
OK, you guys know I'm in for this. NEO Far West will do what it can to help out.
I too have good project management experience, I'm putting together the best thing I can do in Chicago with limited running and limited funding, so I'll have a bit of experience and am more than happy to help out where I can.
I say...let's do it!!!

I've been following along, I like the idea of Ohio-I know I'd make it there alot easier than next year in CO. If there's something I can do from afar (LI) please keep me in mind.

If the projected goal is to get around 250 vehicles at the event, I think you would need more than 1 driving event and 1 cruising event...otherwise you are bound to completely overwhelm some of the areas the groups will be driving in.
Here are some of my potential run suggestions off the top of my head.
1. T2TR overload - basically T2TR run from Canton. 8 hours of aggressive driving with a buffet luncheon at the river to stretch the legs.
2. Poker Run to Wheeling - 3+ hours of aggressive driving gathering cards culminating in a luncheon at Wheeling Island and some free time for gambling before taking a more leisurely trek back to Canton.
3. Loudonville/Mount Vernon/Newark/Coshocton casual drive - 4 hour relaxing drive through scenic central Ohio with several potential points of interest for stops.
4. Cleveland casual drive - a leisurely drive up to the lakeshore in Cleveland for possible visits to the RRHOF or Indians game.
5. Cedar Point Sunday Capper - Aggressive 3 hour drive up to Sandusky for those willing to stick around Ohio for an extra day...to take in the thrills of one of America's oldest and best amusement parks. Lodging arrangements can be made around Sandusky on Sunday evening for those interested.
Location: buzzard..what buzzard..do you see a buzzard..I didn't see a buzzard...or that little sparrow either
BRAD....ALL SUGGESTIONS WILL BE GIVEN EQUAL EVALUATION IF AND WHEN
Ohio is nominated for 2010.
Thanks for your input so far !!!
I presume you will driving over regularly from Delaware for any committee meetings
in our area to share your thoughts
