just an FYI
brought over from "lessons Learned"
*********
my first visit here.
Downshifting....way back in 2005 we thought it was cool NOT to use brakes...but we quickly learned what a danger we were creating.
No names...an incident in the DELLS where a car in front downshifted instead of breaking at a hard turn gave the automatic behind an unclear message and he went off the road at that curve...causing undercarriage damage
So...at OUR events..we ENCOURAGE Brake lights.
**************************
RADIOS: Radios are required at NEO events. We have some very different roads than in most other areas. We do not encourage chatter and have found that most people just listen to the RC & Sweep. A radio is required for the sweep to tell when all cars have cleared an intersection. Because I usually drive alone...I RELY on car #2 to advise the following
#1..oncoming....no matter what you say....you need this information on 555
#2...locals (if you come over a blind rise and end up behind an FBH in a gold Buick...you need to let the group know that you are shutting down hard.
#3 clearing intersections...sweep advises when last car has cleared- for purposes of regrouping and resuming speed
#4 debris in road (by definition ...tree branches...dead animals...buzzards...water) all have happened... your lead car comes around a blind curve and has to dodge a large branch...that info. needs to be passed back...a dead animal or buzzard...same... People do NOT want to drive over a raccoon or a groundhog when you have less that 5" ground clearance..one member cooked a possum in his rotors because he wasn;t warned about road kill. and at T2TR last May I went around a blind curve - below the speed limit- and suddenly found myself in casual water 8" deep in the roadway. I had to brake to a dead stop and people behind needed to know why. These are just a few examples.
#5....group member in distress. 3 examples (we've had them ) Ex#1...car breakdown...we've had multiple instances where the lead car needed to know that a member broke down and to STOP. Ex#2...illness...multiple examples of people needing to hurl...lead needs to know to STOP. Ex#3...blown turn. a member lagged back too far and missed an important or hidden turn (Carnut's corner) and group had to STOP while member was retrieved.
There are more reasons...above is enough for now
Now i don;t care what they do in Illinois...or Montana or Nebraska....but here in NEO-land we strongly encourage RADIOS.
We cannot force you to buy one...but all 5 reasons above should indicate why we STRONGLY recommend them.

Don’t feel bad I am not on the list ether. But maybe because I am not doing the T2TR… instead I am following Ihawk (who doesn’t have aGPS) somewhere on 555

Again...most likely my fault.
But you're on there now!!!
I thank you for your confidence in me!!!

Want to be sure I get it right this time:
I do not have to sign up for specific runs BEFORE we arrive. Is there a fee for the weekend that needs to be paid before we arrive? What about T-shirts?
Look'n forward to those Ohio roads!

#1...NO sign ups....
#2...no FEES
#3...no shirts....unless you want something from a previous meet
We do not run off new shirts for EVERY event
and the 2010's are not ready yet.
Could ask if there are any leftovers. just tell us your size.

Just an FYI
Friday I will lead an SOS counter clockwise run.
There will be enough cars that some can go the other way also.
So you RC's can choose which way you want to run.
I'll tell you though that the new ccw finish is the better one
For about a month or so, I've been staring at this date and trying to decide to commit to come--but something kept holding me back, and I didn't know why.
But, now I do...a golf outing I play in every fall has been rescheduled for this weekend. It helps support the HHS Cheerleading program, which, I know, seems to be an unlikely cause for me to devote my time and $$ toward....
until you remember that my GF is the coach.
Everybody have fun and drive safely--keep me there in spirit!
