You may need a 7xx series to import routes. I have not known of anyone to try it with a 5xx series.

The capability already exists. I haven't done it myself but Glenn (HoosierGXP) has worked out the details.

Given this, it is time to toss my TomTom (it blew chili and chocolate shake the last time i tried to program it for a "trip"). As a solo riding RC, this would seem to be a must. What Garmin model would you recommend?

It depends on your wants, needs, and budget.

I am pretty sure (as Dengel also stated) that you need a Nuvi in either a 7xx or 8xx series to be directly compatible with what most of us are doing. Features and prices vary widely. Both series will talk to you, the 8xx will also listen. 7x0 are last year's models, and will cost less if you can still find them. The 7x5 are the current models, and have more features. I have a 770, which I bought (of course) right before the 7x5s were announced. The 770 is a 760 with the European base maps pre-loaded. I haven't really looked too much at the current models, as I don't see any reason to make myself want to replace mine already.

maybe DW can round up some floozie to be your co-pilot
or maybe one of the "Pregnant Sisters" from DICK's won't be pregant
this year and can ride as your co-pilot & reader (I think she can read)

or maybe Natasha could ride with you.

Let's put an ad out there somewhere

I may be flying solo this run as well. Somebody (who shall remain nameless) scheduled the run to coincide with the Kentucky Derby, and people who work for thoroughbred racing magazines have a hard time leaving town on that particular weekend. I'm still hoping, though.

I believe the newer 765 Nuvi now includes lifetime traffic where the older 760 has a subscription service after the trial period. I've seen some good prices on the7x0 models, and they do everything I need them to do. I've plotted a few routes on my 760 and it's been a great help. The routes from last year have been plotted in mapsource. We just need to make sure any changes for this year are incorporated into them, and that they accurate.

Just remember the Garmin 7x0 series has been discontinued, and the 7x5T series is the new one.

A handy comparison chart is here: GPS comparisons: Garmin nuvi comparsion chart

The 7X5 on top and the 7x0 on the bottom. Unless you plan on using the Garmin to try to use your cellphone, it's most likely not worth the bluetooth options.

That makes the 755T the best non-bluetooth current model and can be found new on Amazon for around $200. It's cheaper than that elsewhere, but you have to watch the deals and search.

For the record, I agreed to take a paternity test for both of those ladies, but "pulled out" when they insisted i appear on Maury to hear the results.

State and religious holiday, all in one. Sort of like UK basketball games.

Maps and Routes.

I cuurently have Garmin Nuvi 755T and have been able to upload route to it that I have created in mapquest.com

I have managed to do the same on Driuds Garmin 750.

I have route maps for both the SOS run and the T3TR run set up in mapquest.com. I can eamil these routes to anyone who needs them and can help assist with loading them into your GPS (at least if it is a Garmin 7XX sieres)

I will also bring my laptop and usb cable to the hotel and can load up the routes into people unots before the runs.

Please PM me your email address if intrested.
