I just broke my second cupholder and I'm pretty disgusted. These things are so cheaply made, all you have to do is look at it wrong and it breaks.
You would have thought that after the first couple of years, Pontiac would have replaced it with something better. I can still get the cupholder replaced under warranty (again!) but it is a PITA.
I saw a thread on the main forum site (I believe it was from March of this year) about someone selling a metal version. Has anyone replaced their cupholder with something other than an OEM part?
if you get sticky stuff on it it can jamb, there is a vendor that has been making then i think but they are not cheep and they look very cool, billit i think? Wow broke TWO! still have my stock one knock on plastic
Tru there is a billet one out there. i see two issues tho. first it screws to the console in the hole so it sticks out a bit(i like clean looks n fllush) two its is expensive think over 100 not sure but def expensive for a cup holder. i vote let gm pay for a new one again their mess up on going cheap. i have a 09 and they took away the waterfall cup holder. i would love to have them the knee one is horrible spot with passengers in the car lol.
The billet one is $150, I believe. It is expensive but I have seen them i person and they are MUCh better than the stock one.
Mine was broken also, but I decided to try and remove it and reinstall...it kept jamming. I took it out, cleaned it all up, and then reinstalled carefully. As long as I am gentle with it, it works as it should. My dealership ordered one for me, but it has been on SPAC for over 2 months.
Yea, mine is messed up again. Maybe someone at the Mod Meet can fix it.

I got mine stuck inside the middle console about 20 times. I've decided to never pull it out again...I'm probably doing damage to the shifter ring. Once day a little plastic will break off that too and I'll have a broken shifter ring and a cupholder, lol.
I just might glue mine shut because it looks horrible when it pushes in and gets stuck.

I have the aftermarket billet cup holder installed in my car. I do like it, but it is expensive.
I never had an issue with mine oddly enough... but once I got my center section padded and wrapped in leather from JPM, the stock cupholder wouldn't fit anymore. So, this solution works great, and compliments the interior work I have had done nicely.

That is exactly what has happened to mine.

Contact Rick Santanna, He is the one who made the billet after market cup holder. I've had mine for about 3 months and love it. Not only does it look great but is very strong and works super. If someone can tell me the easiest way to post pics I'll put some pics on the forum of mine installed. -Bill-
According to my dealer, every Solstice they have ever sold has had the cupholder break. Mine twice. They say they have to remove the console to replace it, but that doesn't seem right.
Location: Sand Point, MI- Summer Brownsville, TX- Winter
My holder pushed in and the service manager popped the shift lever cover ring, then reached in and pushed on the back side of the holder. It popped right out. It just has a couple of spring clips on each side and they fit into a detent. Tooooooo easy!
