Mid Ohio Track Info

We talked about this but it appears there are several major hold backs to the idea.

1. Personal vehicles will be required to have, at a minimum, working factory installed restraint systems (working seat belts) or the equivalent. Tires should have at least 3/32 tread or be DOT approved race tires. Brake pads should be less than ¼ used, performance brake pads recommended. No visible fluid leaks. No convertibles unless equipped with proper roll-over protection. No SUV’s, vans or trucks permitted. Loaner helmets are available at the track.

2. $625 min. with your street-legal car and that does not include any of the course training

All info on Mid Ohio is here if interested.

The Mid-Ohio School - Which Course Should I Take?

Makes the $25 for 3 laps at Watkins Glen look like a better deal especially with the opportunity to have the course for our group only ( no public) with the availability of a lunch and other amenities. Our trip there this past summer was a blast and if we can get a group together we plan on going back again next summer as well. Lots of time to work on it, something to think about for next year.

Join Audi Club or BMW car clubs and you can get more seat time on the track if high speeds are your thing for about half that. Or go to an auto cross school in your area for a whole day to learn more specific limits of your car. No roll cage or bar for the later and it should be under $100.

I've instructed for most of the car clubs all over eastern half of the US. Some track lapping days will allow on course like your car is now. There is one put on at Putnam park in your area by Predator Motorsports.

Here is another site you might want to check out, it's my brothers, he hosts events at Putnam Park all the time. The next one is November 1st. He offers a lot of track time and instructors.

10 / 10ths Motorsports

Predator specifically requires roll bars or hard tops for their lapping day event, unless they offer one that I didn't find on their website.

10/10ths also specifically requires roll bars (or hardtops) for convertibles. Again, unless they offer something that I did not find on the website.

If either of these organizations (or any other) offer an event that does not require us to have roll bars, please provide the details. I looked, and could not find anything.

Putnam Park is really cool. I have been on that track several times when I had the G6 Coupe. There are a bunch of people that put stuff on, but I think you will find that they all require hardtop or roll bar.
The Columbus Indiana SCCA club does a couple auto-cross schools a year which is fun. Maybe we could have a club outing for one of those. They are on Saturday and they have a regular auto-cross event on that Sunday. I think it was $30 last year. No roll bar or hard top required. It is a good event and teaches good car control.
If interested I could provide link.

Putnam Park

My brother is talking to Putnam Park about working around the roll bar problem and is willing to organize an event for our cars. He also does Mid Ohio events and can get various venders to come.
