Hey, Msg for upjohn!!
Thanks for your advice....ordered a new ECM and once I receive it I'll be sending it to westers for the retune. This way I'll have the original I can slap in if necessary.
Mark
Yes upjohn, we are going to that ride... we were going to Niagara as well until this morning. Something came up and we had to cancel. We'll see ya on the 13th.
Now I'm anxious to get the retune done to see what more this will give me....
If you are to purchase a power adder like a NOS, TC, SC, Cams, Computer Tune, etc... You better educate yourself before you jump.
You need to understand the basics like air/fuel ratios, exhaust gas temps, vacuum/boost, oil systems and how they will work with your supercharger/turbo. You'll need to know how your tranny will hold up and what clutch you'll eventually need. You'll need a scanner to check trouble codes and monitor engine readings like knock retard, etc... For forced induction, you'll at least need a boost gauage and a wide band O2 guage.
Most important of all you need to have tuning lined up in advance.. It is best to have a local dyno and tuning shop do a custom tune. If a local soultion is not available then you better have a very moderate mail-order tune ready to go. Talk to your tuner and make sure they are familiar with the software associated with your specific engine and vehicle.
Lastly, your engine is going to wear itself out that much quicker with that much more power. A 2.4L running 400 horsepower will only last 30-40,000 miles at the most. Make sure you have a spare motor accessable, I would just plan ahead and start saving for a nice built engine that you'll eventually need.
Do not ever fool yourself into thinking that just because you have as much horsepower as a Corvette you'll have the same reliability and service costs. It costs $$$ to play.
Here's a list of what I've broken first hand with F.I.:
None of the above failures were caused by incorrect tuning or incorrect installation of a "turbo kit". Essentially the OEM parts exceeded their design tolerances. I'm sure Bill has a list much much longer with 20 years of experience.

Well, heh, not to split hairs...33 years (1975). It just took me 15 to get the nerve and experience to go into my own business with it in 1988 (the 20-year anniversary this year!)
Thanks for the props in any case, and yes...all very true. High power comes with high risks.

I've been driving my '06 N/A since last July (bought it used) less the winter (parked Nov - Mar), and have put 24,000kms on it. While I love the car, it has always felt a little under powered. Last month I bought a DDM Stage 2 kit for it. Got the kit used from Bowhunter here on the forum. DDM supported me with new MAF tubes, Spark Plugs, ECM relash to Stage 2c, and several other nigley parts that didn't amount to any profit for DDM. Yesterday myself and a buddy - who just happens to be a master GM mechanic who specializes in Superchargers - put the kit in. I'm here now to say
THANK YOU DDM !
for the great engineering (Mike was also very impressed), to the great support - both for supplying the parts needed to upgrade an old kit, and for being there at 7PM or later on a Friday night, to help me through the last little steps.
I can't speak for the other kits on the market, but DDM is phenominal !
Today I had the pleasure of putting some miles on the kit. Man what a different car. Down low torque on command through virtually the whole RPM spectrum. Passing power like a V8 - and a hot V8 at that. Cool sound when the S/C kicks in - cannot be misintrepreted - you know it means business. THIS IS THE WAY THE CAR SHOULD HAVE BEEN SUPPLIED !
To anybody out there who is contemplating more HP for your 2.4N/A, my advice is GO FOR IT ! This mod is amazing, and worth every penny. My permagrin is back - bigger than when I first got the car. Just writing this makes me want to go back out and drive it some more.

Also wanted to mention - the car that caused me to start this thread a long time ago was equipped with a Hahn Stage 2. The engine failed because the wrong spark plugs were installed ( too long) according to an un-named GM source. No fault of Hahn or his kit.
That said - let the Turbo vs Supercharger debate carry on !

I doubt if anyone directlty involved w/Hahn ever believed any of this guff...and of course knows better.
Is there any question as to which is better, really Who owns the record for the fastest 1/4 mile time Which should speak volumes. If that's taken over by a super charged car, there's the bench mark.
Cheers
Mike

You are certainly 100% correct. The only measure of performance is the 1/4 mile time. All roads end after a 1/4 mile. (need a better sarcasm smiley )

For me personally, it's about having enough juice to make the trip enjoyable, and having confidence I'll be able to make the trip every day without worry. Pefformance and driveability. The supercharger gives me that. No fuss, no bother - just drive!
