Exhaust Manifold Stud Holes

bterbeek,

The stud breaking is from a biggier issue, and based on your pictures the Manifold hole sizes will cause sheering of the stud bolts. Look at OEM manifold and then the turbo manifold you will see what I'm talking about.

The studs break from a CTE miss match. See link.
Exhaust Manifold Bolts.....

ELJonesy,
I agree, the werks radiator is awsome.

hey vin,
i know what your talking about with the manifold holes being small, tomorrow im taking it in to work to open up those holes using a mill and surface grind the manifold to head flange smooth to remove the mill marks because they are deep enough to let exhaust gases to leak even though there is a gasket.

ok,took the manifold and downpipe into work , machined the face to a smoother finish and opened up exhaust ports a snitch

notice the different color in the steel, a little warpage

much smoother and flatter sealing surface now

The current manifolds being sold by Hahn have been tweeked to incorporate larger holes as per the OEM manifold (not sure why they made them smaller to being with but ??) it is better that the earlier manifolds however.

Great job on reworking it bterbeek ! WOW !

thanks john , next its getting sent to swain tech for some ceramic coating!

got a little more off tonight , let me mention though that to get off the harmonic balancer you will need a flywheel holding tool so the crank does not rotate

its a dealer tool but you can get it for 80 or so dollars from Welcome to SPX Service Solutions | Kent-Moore

part # is J-43653, you have to remove the starter to hold the flywheel

front cover off

crank sprocket

tool in place

Yup, We going to do a polish job and replace the valves with SuperTech Valves which of course are super de duper. This along with the rest of the stuff. Springs, Unobtanium (high grade stuff) retainers, Some ARP super head studs. and so on. GM super special thick headGasket. Oh yeah and changing the crankshaft sprocket gear to do something I don't totally understand but makes it work. The goal being to be able to boost up to 29 PSI, Oh my bad that's tire pressure. Ah I think it's 21PSI. on pumpkin gas. There of course is some more parts in the box. The goal is not to have parts left over in the Box that I got from my friends at Hahn.

Please don't try this at home folks as it requires factory manuals, special tools and special people. Not to mention many question from friends wondering why I keep taking my car apart.

Thats cool, well i need to make some friends over at Hahn i guess as well
I work at GM as a designer, so all i can do is make stuff look purteeee.. lol but when it comes to taking stuff apart. .. um... i got to scratch my head I mean i know a few things but i really need to do some research into this stuff before i start playing with engine mods. Good luck , looks awesome so far.
