I just doublechecked Garrett's website...I was 99% sure that you can purchase a variant of the GT2871R where the turbine doesn't have an internal gate....but sure enough everything is listed as you said.

Must have been a hybrid that someone was offering...I'll have to see if I can find that website again.

Personally I prefer internal wastegates. Less chance of having leaks and if done right there are no HP loss and no boost creep.

yeah you are right, they are welding it shut, and using another 38mm wastegate on the side. They are setting it up for better boost in the up coming year. But it will still be a good turbo set up for the DD. I hope to have some pictures up soon.
thanks

got a price range on this kit. 5K US. But everyone needs to remember. This is going to be a much better kit from the parts used to the turbo being used. This isn't a $500 turbo. You will be getting a $1500 turbo. everything in stainless steal and aluminum pipes. New high flow cat. Tial wastegate tial BOV. And a Garret GT2871R turbo. Also a tube manifold. If anyone else has anything to ask. T clamps. If you wish to see the parts your self just pm me, and I will hand over the list.

So is the kit 'stage II'? What's the expected whp @ the $5k price (bang for the buck)? Sounds pretty good!

Still sounds pretty good. Hahn stage III (if we ever get it) is supposed to get to 280whp (340 bhp) and the cost will end up around $5k (I think) but doesn't include the high flow cat. On the Hahn web site the stage III info/dyno indicates 15psi boost to get to those numbers and probably not with pump gas. By the time stage III is dialed down to something that can handle stock internals and pump gas the boost might be dropped to 12-13 psi and the output might drop to (?)!

These guys who are building my turbo, dont really want to push more then 8psi. They are really aiming for 6psi, because the motor will last a life time only running 6psi. So those are all the hopes and dreams, Pm me if you want the pipes and parts list. There are soo many parts that are needed to make this turbo kit, it will blow your mind away.

I dyno'd my car on 93 octane PUMP gas and very conservative timing and air fuel. at 1 bar(14psi) it put down 260whp(320 crank) and at 1.4bar(20-21 psi) it put down 322whp(380 crank). Next up is a race gas map pushing 25psi with more aggressive timing for the higher octane. I see no reason why i cant see 400whp out of the car with these parameters... the best part of everything is the power band with 300+whp from approx 4200-7000 rpms. I'll post the dyno overlays possibly tonight.

from what I know, we are only going to be using 91oct gas. Because that is what I fill up with most of the time. Unless they up it to 94oct. I am not 100%. Also we can do any kind of numbers. They have 160oct sitting in their back room for their race car.

Boosted.

Ya think 14psi is about it for stock internals?

I was thinking anything over 12psi running it hard a few times, and I dont think the motor would be able to handle it. Also you have a smaller turbo, So it might need more PSI to push the turbo harder ?? I am not sure, this is going to be my first turbo car ever.

I JUST CANT WAIT TO GET IT BACK

in my experience the factory rods are getting pushed at 14psi+. for any engine longevity i'd keep boost at 11-12psi and below. My car has a built lower compression motor and I'm driving daily on it at about 21 psi which is as high as Im going to go on pump gas. on race gas I may tune a 25psi map this weekend and shoot for 400whp.
