Don't know if this goes against any of the manufacturers license agreements but i was wondering if anyone who installed a turbo kit from werks or hahn still had their instructions (did they come with instructions?)

I'm planning an install and need all the info I can find on the ecotec.

Thanks!

I installed my Hahn stage IV. Comes with very easy to follow detailed instructions that must be followed exactly. Copyright law that is posted in the manual forbids copying. The well designed and tested kit and manual has made it easy to install along with great tech support. Be brave and get boosted.

I appreciate the response. Yeah, I figured that would be close to the case, these are professionals after all.

I have tons of respect for both Hahn and Werks for what they do for this platform but I came across an opportunity to own a little bit of solsticeforum memorabilia and jumped.

Now I have to figure out where everything goes without torching my motor

No worries - i'm sure i can come up with some good specific questions to ask that won't violate federal law or international trade regulations.

Thanks again

If you go on Garrett's web site you can freely download the install instructions for any of their turbo kits, including the Cobalt.

My 1st issue (serial #1) Stage II for auto 2.4 is installed, Hahn is explicit on copyright, but I do not think Bill means I cannot answer an installation question. Took about 12 hours total, and I'm patient and methodical. Pretty easy, and if anyone questions the little blanks in install exactness in the directions, they had better hire it done. Nuff said there. In short, the system is beautiful, and well thought out. Anyone with a garage, the proper tools and knowledge of the english language can do this. If I wasn't in Central NY and winter, it would be road tested tomorrow.

Alright - I should be starting this weekend on the install but i am still dragging some info for the LE5 specifically.

Where should I plumb into the oil and coolant lines for the turbo's needs? Anyone have a picture of what these lines look like?

Grats! This should be fun

Pictures of the parts:
It's a garrett gt2871r
using a cobalt air to water heat intercooler with a modified A2A intercooler to act as a heat exchanger. I've decided not to use his piggyback as i don't feel like cutting into my harness (lots of ominous looking cut wires in that bag (Lower Left))

yikes, you a doing a custom kit. I'm not a big fan, as I still think the ecm will be your biggest problem. I once wrote a post on adding the oil pressure gauge. You can tap there for your oil feed.

Lucky bastard. That car was fast. Is it going on a stock motor? I thought boosted lowered compression. Kepp the boost around 9 and you should be good. I am assuming you got the ecm or reflash?

I got his ecm and his piggy back but i'm really not trying to cut into my harness to wire it all together (without instructions) so i got a local shop to agree to tune my ECM for boost. Obviously without being in this position it's hard to give advise but do you really think having them do it would be ok? The tuning shop was recommended by the local boosted cobalt crowd (for ecotec exp) and have said they could do it.

Please give me all the criticism you can think of as i need to ask all the questions before i remove the exhaust mani

My biggest issue is i have no instructions - i understand basic turbo genetics but once you throw in the fancy stuff i am out of my experience zone. The a2w IC will be tough but that should just be getting the water pump installed and circulating correctly.

For now I will be using the stock internals. Part of the kit included the forged rods but one of the pistons was destroyed when the rocker took a dump so i'm not sure if that put too much stress on that particular rod. Either way i'm not ready to pull the motor and will be saving for the forged pistons for a combo installation down the road. I'm not planning on running high boost until i can pickup a spare long block to build.

You should be fine with the cobalt tuners. I went to a shop that built turbo kits for the cobalts to build my custom turbo set up. And it made some wicked power. 311RWHP on
8PSI. Which was un heard of. I am going to re tune this year to make more power and might turn up the boost 1PSI. Good luck and I hope you make some good power.

Did I miss something? How does that a2w IC work?
The inlet for the charge air is on a parallel plane with the inlet for the water.
Are you going to just block off the charge inlets and pump water across it as a heat exchanger for the LSJ intake manifold?
OR are those aqua mist injectors in the IC?

I really believe he had it setup as a heat exchanger...

This is the only pic i have found of his engine bay from the driver's side. I believe he used the small A2A IC to keep the water cool but i'm not completely positive.

yea, it was obvious when I actually wrote it, but not totally sure. Seeing this image and the 2 inlets of the A2A sticking up in front (sealed off) spells it out.
I have to say that's not the best use of an intercooler and probably less efficient than a $50 oil cooler (used as a heat exchanger), but for working with what you have that's pretty kewl.
I chuckle at the use, but at the same time shake my head in acceptance knowing damn well it works.
