#943 is back! A little over 13,000 miles. In what is probably a world record - I am finally attempting to change my original battery! I've put it off as long as I could - but I'm pretty sure I've squeezed every bit of juice I possibly could out of that battery.

So I'm going through the fender - but it looks like I still have to remove the screws in the wheel liner anyway, which is something I did not want to do. Anyone else with a first 1,000 change the battery themselves? Any tips before I take the plunge?

You can't have the 117,853 Solstice built in 06 because they didn't build that many, so I'm thinking you may have a preproduction model. Let's see if DaveOC weighs in.

Per one of DaveOC threads:

DIGIT DESCRIPTION MEANING
--------------------------------------------------
1 Country of Origin UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
G Manufacturer PONT GENERAL MOTORS
2 Division PONTIAC
MB Line SOLSTICE
3 Body Style 2 DR CONVERTIBLE
3 (meaning of these letters changes from year to year)
B Engine 2.4L 4CYL MFI,DOHC,HO.ECOTEC
7 Check Digit
6 Year 2006
Y Plant WILMINGTON, DE

000000 Last 6 is Serial Number

If you combine the numbers for the Wilmington Plant with all the other published monthly reports (some of which are no longer available from the "new" GM, you end up with:

65,724 Solstice
34,415 Sky
07,519 Opel GT
107,658 total Kappa

Please don't ask for me the break out NA vs GXP (or Redline) or by color or transmission type. Totals is the best I can do.

R.I.P. Kappa platform.

The last 6 pretty much always starts at 100000 and increments by 1 with certain exceptions: in 2006, the first 1000 started with 000001 and ended with 001000.

So, 117853 translates to 1000 + 17853 = ~18853rd model year 2006 off the line. Approximately, as the numbers were assigned at the start of the line, and there are bust outs and bust ins as the cars go down the line.

There are extensive numbering discussions on the forum back in the 2006 era.
