Bad, Bad, Bad, Bad Vibrations

I have never been in any other Solstice than my own, so I am wondering if anyone else has a bad vibration problem around 80 mph? I had the tires balanced twice, so at this point I am wondering if I have a bad tire, loose body panel, driveshaft issue, or if these little cars just get buffeted by the wind and get the shakes. The problem is non-existent below 70 mph, starts to show up around 75, and will make you angry around 80. I have the Monarch J2 Staggered 18" Wheels with Goodyear Eagle F1 All-Seasons. Any feedback would be very much appreciated as I try to remedy this issue.

thanks

Had mine on the highway for a 2 hour back and forth trip and had no problems with any type of vibrations at 80.

Sounds like an alignment issue? Could also be uneven tire wear (usually cause by bad alignment or track use), or even uneven tire inflation.

I would check to see if the wheels/rims are true. they could be balanced and not be true. A dial indicator set to the rim edge while off the ground will tell if its out of round. The rim could be bad even if new, or a tire could be blem as well. Have you ever hit a curb or a pot hole that might have bent a rim or spindel/axle?

My guess would be tires, rims or balance.

No, you got a serious problem here. Especially if you have had you wheels balanced. You should not even vibrate into the 3 figures. Time to have your dealer take a ride in it.

No damage to the wheels or tires (That I know of). I am the only one that drives the car, except when it is in for service. I am pretty sure the car has had this issue since I bought it. I put the wheels/tires on pretty early, so I can't say if the problem did or did not exist with the factory wheels/tires.
I am starting to wonder if I have a bad tire. I purchased through Discount Tire, but their closest location is about 3.5 hours away from me. Anyone have a good idea on how to go about solving/resolving this one?

May want to check your front axle nut to make sure it's tight. These cars are known to have the nut loosen up when cornering really hard over a long period of time. I doubt if this is the problem...but worth a check anyway.

I'm wondering if you need HUB rings for your rims. I'm not sure if the wheel you bought is Hubcentric. But I had to put plastic wheel hubs in for at least 2 sets of my wheels.

I know this idea is a pain in the butt, however, changing back to the factory rims/tires would tell you if the problem is wheels or car.

Yeah, I would try that first, but I sold the factory wheels and tire - why would I need those sitting around in the garage - hahaahha

Other things to check is your drive shaft. Gizmo lost 3 nuts, and two bolts out of the six holding he driveshaft to the transmission.

That crossed my mind as my car did have the rearend recall fixed before I purchased it. Also wondered if maybe they did not get the drive shaft back in the correct position and it is a DS balance issue.
