Dirty Convertible Top

I have 2006.. Red w/Black Top..

A few years ago I noticed the top just won't get clean...

It appears the top feels sticky in spots, like it lost it's protective layer or something..

I've been to 2 detail shops and they just said replace it...

Any ideas

Welcome to the forum

Clean it well, flood with water, vacuumed it well then die it black. Some have had good success with brushing on a couple of coats of Rit dye. When it's done, treat it with Raggtop

It sounds like you are getting bleed through of glue. There is no known cure short of coloring it

Sticky? If it's tree sap you might try bug and tar remover. Have any pics?

Dirty top too

I had the same trouble. Mine came from tree sap, pollen and the fact that my boyfriends Corvette's get to sleep in the garage.
I did figure out how to get it looking black again. I bought some Forever Black top dye from Amazon. It cost $17.00 and comes with an applicator. I scrubbed my top with a brush to get the grime off of it. I just used dish soap and water. I let it dry, then I got to work putting the stuff on. It took almost the whole bottle, but it looked great after I got done. You will need to put a towel under the flaps that attach to the trunk. I got a small spot on my paint and didnt notice it right away. Its still there, no one see's it but me. I was glad it dyed the white velcro on the flaps too. I couldnt believe GM would use white velcro on a black top... oh well. Its been over two years and its just now starting to need it done again. I still cant go in the garage except for oil changes and other maintenance.
I hope this helps.

Well it is his garage. And he helps me with all the maintenance. He changed my water pump, changed the differential oil, changes the oil, and plugs my tires when I get nails and screws in them. Yes, I said them.... Im a magnet.

Oh and all it costs me is the supplies, food and beer!!!

Yes I would say he is, the water pump was a major job. I helped where I could. He thinks its about time to have to change it again. I do the minor stuff, I would fix my own tires when I drive over a nail or screw but I cant pick the stupid things up once I get them off. That is if I can catch them before the roll down the hill once they are off. I'll would buy a carport if he would put it together though.
