Cool. Thanks for the picture. That is definitely the valve and canister

Here are some pictures of the alternative evap canister. Its the HHR part which is basically identical with the Kappa part with the addition of one tab, a slid on metal cap and the relocation of the solenoid valve retention clip. It will be very easy to modify the HHR part to substitute for the Kappa part. The HHR part is the one on the right with the white hose fitting.

I successfully modified the HHR canister to be a fit for the Kappa unit. I removed the metal top with a screwdriver. Then I used the band saw to remove one side tab and the large tab on the end.

Then I test fit the evap solenoid valve to both units. It fits fine in both cases. The difference with the HHR canister is the retention clip requires the solenoid to be rotated 90 degrees but it looks to me that it will still fit the Kappa just fine. If there is a fit problem it will be easy to mount the valve without rotating it and holding it in place with alternative means.

As far as I am concerned this is no longer an issue.

Is the EVAP canister the same on both Turbo and NA?
If not, can someone give me the part number for the NA?

If I can't get a new canister, can the charcoal be replaced in the one I have?

Thanks in advance!

Sly, black leather, black top, 145 NA, loaded. Seems like it has everything but On-Star.

@RobTheElder posted a write up on modifying the HHR canister, basically trimming some tabs with a Dremel if I remember correctly. Original part should be the same for NA and turbo.

Technically, you can replace the charcoal, but getting the canister resealed may be a chore. *shrug*

I may be wrong, but I thought the manufacturers had to service emissions parts for a minimum time (I thought it was 10 years). Isn't this such a part and am I correct about their requirement to provide replacements?

Start the dance again? Price lowered $5.00 since I bought mine. It lives in its OEM box, with the FSM set sitting on it, under my computer desk here in the home office. Obviously I am not out celebrating New Year's Eve so let's simply wish for logic, reason and perhaps a little common sense and compassion. Oh hell, throw in ability and wisdom just to make 2018 interesting. Happy New Year!
