Do you think that is what Harley-Davidson is going to do for their electric bike?
Harley owners are an interesting lot, generally divided into two camps. One, the hard core bikers, belong to gangs, not clubs, and would never buy anything that didn't make antisocial loud noises.
The other group consists of doctors, lawyers, accountants etc., who would never seek to join (nor would they be accepted) a traditional motorcycle gang. They organize into touring clubs and spend their vacation going to retro music festivals and such. When you look at the HD site and see them touting some of the features of the new bikes in an 'Infotainment' section, you know where that is going.
I think the latter group is the target buyer for the electrocycles and will be just fine without making butch noises all the time.
Still, it is quite a switch for HD. No noise, no gear shifting....I guess their stock was struggling and they were looking for a new market. For the sake of tradition, I hope they find it, although my interest in biking was always in the British, Japanese and Italian stuff.
With a range of only 95 miles in stop and go riding (best case 146 miles), and a price of $30K, I think it may be a hard sell.
