LNF vs LE5 intake manifold

So,

Why is the LNF intake manifold cast aluminum, while the LE5 is (pretty typical) plastic?

Maybe because the LNF manifold has to withstand 15+ psi of internal pressure at elevated temperatures?

I can understand your train of thought. But, even the coolant reservoir has to maintain ~14psi, and I can't imagine that temperatures on that side of the head are significantly greater on the LNF than they are on the LE5. There are quite a few boosted engines out there with composite intake manifolds.

I thought some more after I posted that, and it could be precautionary because of the direct injection. The LNF was GM's first DI application, and they could have been concerned about backfire, which has been a concern with DI.

Obviously I am guessing, but it is an entertaining thought experiment.

Makes as much sense as anything else that's come to mind.
