my cat died...

Almost a year to the day since my supercharger was installed,
I was driving along and felt "no power" from the car.
The car would drive 60mph+, but there was no "satisfaction" when I stepped on the gas over 40.
The car felt like the supercharger was not doing anything.

You all know that you get to know the sounds of your car... Well, my start-up sound seemed to be missing when I started the car.

The check engine light went on briefly, but then cleared.

I sent a text message to Dr Dave at DDMWORKS.

( condensed version of the story... )
He did some diagnosis over the phone, with me taking videos and capturing sounds, and poking around the supercharger.

After 30 minutes, he said that he knew what the problem was, but we needed a boost gauge for a final test.

He sent me one, and we did the last test.

The testing revealed that catalytic converter was acting as if it was clogged up. I could not drive
the car to 5k RPMs. The car would stutter above 4k RPMs. A P0420 code appeared as well.
Other symptoms included a smelly exhaust, and no sound from my Magnaflow muffler. The car sounded like a completely stock NA car.

Dr Dave sent me a previously-owned catalytic converter. I got it installed today. Now my car is running and sounding as a supercharged car should.
The old 'cat' released silver shavings when it was shaken.

...a big THANK-YOU to Dr Dave at DDMWORKS.

Prior to reading, I honestly thought your PET CAT had died.

I suspect that the high flow CATs may last longer than stock ones did, but have no personal experience with that (yet).

Current fleet:
1957 Jamaican bodied MGA
1958 MGA Twin Cam (race car)
1962 MGA Deluxe Coupe
1971 Jensen Interceptor
2009 Pontiac Solstice GXP Coupe

Recently departed: 1965 Jensen CV8, 1969 Lamborghini Islero S, 1988 Pontiac Fiero GT, 1969 MGC roadster

That would be good as I have one in the roadster. I sold the OEM cat which in hindsight was probably not the brightest thing to do. All hail Dave at DDM. We are lucky to have him as part of our crew.

Interestingly, DDMWORKS has a cat for a 2.4 on their website, and I thought one of those would be coming my way.
But Dr. Dave suggested an OEM cat would be better overall for my car.

Is this opinion for just my car ? don't know... I will ask him when I see him in NY in June 2019

well, yeah, but...

my car is a 2009 and was placed into service in Dec 2008. SO, this car does not qualify.
I lose on both model year and time-of-service...

Thanks anyway for the reminder about this extended-warranty item.
( I would think that all cars have now "timed-out" of this extended warranty by now ( May 2019 ) ... )

The purpose of my post was to share with you that GM knew there was a problem with the 2.4L cats.

Very common issue on ALL of GMs 2.4L engines...even the newest models. And a lot more common then even our waterpump issues!!! Had a coworker that had a Terrain with a 2.4L and 70k, cat plugged up.
