timing chain tensioner

for some reason, my timing chain tensioner, (which appears to be a very large bolt head on the right forward side of the block. Am I right?) has an ugly coating of rust on it.

Will I run into any complications if I remove the tensioner to clean it up?

Bill.

I would really suggest that you DON'T remove it! Just clean it in place with a wire brush and/or rust remover.

thanks guys, I'll clean it in place. dug out my shop manual after your advice. Too much trouble to reset and activate and also don't have the special tools needed to do it.

PIECE OF CAKE! coated it with some loktite naval jelly (phosphoric acid), let it sit for 15 minutes and hosed it off. No more rust.

being as anal as I am, now I've gotta paint it.
