Yet it gives those of us a place to debate current events and topics without worrying as much about scaring off noobs, corporate lurkers, etc...

1st - Thanks and great idea.

2nd - I commonly use "active topics" and would hope these topics would not come up. Do you expect them to be ignored on "active topics" or do you expect they will come up.

Again, thanks for a brilliant way to not stifle discussion, but not expose those trying to avoid it. Really brilliant.

Hope this works out and keeps the political junk out of here. So now tell me where we can take the "Turtle Wax Ice" discussion?

S-man, it looks like they are NOT coming up with "active topics". Cool.

Thanks.

That was part of the idea with creating the new section. Most of the complaints were coming from people who kept stumbling across those discussions in the active topics list. This way, only people who want to find them will, and leave those who want nothing to do with them continue on with their forum lives as if those threads never existed!

Yeah, they should not show up in any of the search functions.

I don't know if they show up on the front page, though.

Very good Idea

It is hard not to get pulled into one of these when you see it every time you click on the New Posts button... besides all it does is get my bloodpressure up seeing all the so called factual statements with no proof that they are true...
This will keep me out of that section...
I am glad this hasn't started over at the Sky site yet, you may nned one over there if some of that starts over there...

IF it is successful here - think of it as an "experiment"

I think you hit on the reason those threads become so “popular” People see the “statements” in them, and just feel so compelled to respond that they do. It starts a viscous cycle that never ends!

Sky forum has it’s own troubles right now… we don’t need political threads added to it!!

will the mods move a thread if it is started in the general area and then becomes controversial?

You guys have something here. Jimbo's right... much credit is due for this very clever solution. I for one really hope it works.
