So I get this notification....

In order to view this site today, I had to agree to the terms of letting my viewing habits be recorded for my benefit. I could not view the site unless I agreed. The notice also said that this invasion of privacy can be changed in my privacy settings. I looked around in my privacy settings and can't find anything to shut down big brother. Anyone have any insight to the setting to shut this down?

I think you may want to run a virus scanner on your computer or whatever you are viewing this site with. I've seen nothing like this at all on this or any other AutoGuide site.

What are you using to view this site?

By following the link in the notification you can also find a list of hundreds of companies they sell our data to.
FWIW, I have never seen this notification.

I've never seen it either. But it was a recent discussion topic, and I believe it was RedOne07 that was part of that discussion of the enormous list of companies sharing our data. The biggest thing I imagine that it means to me is numerous companies might use my email address and send me solicitations.

On the subject of unsolicited emails, I always for years had a policy of not using the unsubscribe option for fear of just confirming my email address was in fact a valid one. Well, for some reason now, that is a theory of the past and I use the unsubscribe option frequently.

One thing for sure, our privacy is just a fable now.

I have not seen it.

Maybe because I am a paying member as I do not get any advertisements ?

No thank you. I value keeping my privacy levels as high as I can achieve.

If I could I'd eliminate all advertising, but do realize that it is necessary in order to pay for content.

I sometimes forget how much I paid, once upon a time, to get rid of advertising, it's been well worth whatever amount it was.

Thanks for the reminder.

Might be sn open door, but .........…. privacy levels are not any higher for paying members. I assume they are even lower because you have paid them and therefore they have more data (real name, address, etcetera) to sell / share.

I always assume that there is no privacy whatsoever and try not to disclose anything more than is absolutely necessary.

Years ago, a long, long time ago, I used Amazon to follow a few of my favorite authors. One day, their website greeted me with "Hello, Dave". To this day I have never purchased anything from Amazon. I'm pretty sure they don't care, one way or another.

Strange, I'm a new member but have been following for quite a while and haven't seen this myself. I wonder if it's associated with the browser used?

Got a first-time email today from the Solstice forum website with the top highlights of the day and it was Turboman808. Likely due to my accepting the terms of the breach of my privacy. I unsubscribed...

No it is not, it depends on local legislation.

You can test it by using a VPN and changing you IP to a different area where privacy legislation is more strict than in the US.

Remember that the interweb is not world wide any more, it is local. Depending on your area websites disappear, are available, reroute you, show a different domain, change language, treat your privacy differemt, show different pricing, show you different content, etcetera...
