Tirerack on their own pulled out of active internet forum advertising. I could give you several examples. Anywhere you might find them it might be a freebie on behalf of that particular forum. They do still participate with knowledge on certain forums.

The two companies do have different takes on certain things, but DTD does declare they are here to help. So don't be afriad to ask them what you want to know (I do know they respond better to email but tell them what forum to respond to)

Off topic, so I'll keep it short...

Why e-mail a forum sponsor? Isn't that supposed to be the point? That's like walking into a store to call their 800 number to talk to someone... 'nuff said.

On topic... yeah.. site loads slower, but every single ad seems to load before any real content. I haven't looked at the code, but I somehow doubt that's just coincidence.

Secondly, this new format is awkward... old one looked more professional, and friendly. I'm sure it's light and loads faster, but really... I never had much problem loading an old format either (who as dial-up nowadays?). This one feels as if it was from a pre-made template, and it feels cold and dry.

It's not because I haven't gotten used to the new format either. Couple of my local sports car forums changed their format to this layout and many people stopped using that forum, and now I don't go there anymore because I got flustered with it as well.

I'm sorry that I'm just putting negativity out there, but that's my two cents.
My 2 cents also, Solid. I hate all the ads and it is slower to reload when you go back from reading a thread. I may have to leave this forum because it's no longer user friendly.

A positive attitude may not solve all your problems but it will annoy enough people to make it worthwhile.

Site review:

We have 3 stacked banner adds at the top now.
An empty space in the middle at the top where one of those adds could be tucked.
4 stacked column adds on the left.
A bunch of non-solstice related auto information.
An autoguide list of non-solstice forums along the bottom.
The front page is plastered with non-solstice articles about GM job banks and miatas.
And finally there is a shortened list of the latest forum entries in the bottom 20% of the front page. Following the tiny link to the actual forum area it gets a little bit better.

I can see how the graphics are more streamlined now. Waiting for the dynamic content to be loaded is cumbersome since it can't be cached. The per click adds do generate monies if they are clicked on. Overall, the amount of scrolling on the site now is greatly increased, even though the graphics use are less.

Hey, down here at the bottom of all the scrolling there is a mystery drop down box that says -- Solstice.

Question... do the adds disappear if I become a paying subscriber?

I will always treasure the information found and shared here, but I may just change links directly to the forum page. There should be more balance between information offered and the delivery method used.

Top graphics are very nice, color scheme is good, it's easy to read. I hate all the ads. I'm running 1024x768 on my laptop and between the top graphic and the banner ads I have to scroll down to see any real content.

I just perused another one of the linked auto forums... the lambo site.
If we were to get rid of the non solstice related news and stick just to the forum, it might work. Their sight seemed more focused on the subject and had the same layout we do.

Whoa I had to rub my eyes for a sec to see if I was dreaming, Rodeo came back! Back on topic I have high speed internet and the site loads slow.

Edit: Got to love firefox, I right clicked on the ads and blocked them. Now The only ads are the google ad sense ad. Im happy now it loads faster. Nice free fix. It looks just like the old site only one ad on the top.

Not crazy about homepage

No real problems with the update, but I must admit I don;t like the extra "news" boxes on the homepage.

However, I found a good way to get "closer" to old homepage, and skip the news.

I went to the active topics button, and clicked on the pulldown, and then right clicked on the "last day" and chose to copy the link, listed here:

Pontiac Solstice Forum-last day-Results

Now I bookmarked that link, and use it in my toolbar to get here, and I get a pretty long list of the most recently activity, and no long news articles......

I sent my 40 bucks lifetime in, it says 27 years, via payPal to get more PM storage and to get rid of the ads.

In 27 years I will likely be posting from SLY in an Alzheimers ward and will for sure by then, be a real pain in the BAAAHunkus

Will there be any attempt to reconcile the differences in the old and new paid statuses (if that even is a word - - - you know what I meant.)

What's the word? Will there be a stimulus refund check for us old Lifetime Gold Members?

BTW, I like the new format.

I was when I came to the site just after the "UPDATE".
I had to double check to ensure I was at the right site.

I didn't stay on long that day, I just didn't have the time to learn
something new. Now this weekend I can take my time and figure
out what I can do and oh yes.....definitely upgrade my membership.

It will definitely take some getting use to and very unexpected change.

I could traverse the old blind folded. But hey, there's always room for
change and improvement.

Thanks for all your hard work.
