Using a mechanic for a pre-purchase inspection

I used YourMechanic with good success. In addition to giving the car a good inspection and drive, he pointed up a scratch that the seller had not revealed and looked under the car where the seller had not taken any pictures. Equally important his inspection verified the existence of the car and the seller, reducing the risk of fraud.

I paid $150 (Can.) to have my new (to me) BMW pre inspected, which included a computer print out of every service ever done on the car. Well worthwhile.
