Good luck in your quest had a friend whose dad had the diesel version and drove it till the wheels fell off When it finally died due to all the rust from the salt they use here in Ohio it had over 400000 miles on it .I know that they are becoming rare but I'm sure there are still a few out there and the parts should not be too hard to find because it's based on a Rabbit .

My late uncle in Berkley, MI had a diesel one for 25 years and the reason he kept it was it had great fuel economy and was very practical for him to haul tools and material for the odd jobs he did. I always thought it was cool that it had a VW Rabbit front end but was actually a pick-up truck

You can tune a piano, but you can't tuna fish!
