I don't want to repeat myself but... Nashville and Louisville are both places that can host a group our size without a problem and both have plenty of things to do AND they are more centrally located (for the east half of the country).

I don't see Planning of the hotel and banquet as the greatest difficulty. Although finding a facility that can accommodate for the size of our group during the peak tourist timeframe and also be close to some challenging roadways could be difficult. I think a bigger issue is getting the volunteers to design and lead/ sweep the many daily cruises that all of us enjoy and expect at a national meet. We look for locations that will give us open exciting roadways and they are usually located in less populous areas. Therefore lodging can be difficult. All of us can say we would like to see an event here or there but getting volunteers for this huge project doesn't seem to be developing. I hope that this annual event doesn't go away but our vehicles are getting older and participation seems to be declining. I hope for continuation and time will tell.

Relatively few owners show up at the Nationals. Those that do tend to go for socialization and for the drive. Holding an event where there are not great roads is not a great idea for attendance.

Personally, I am terrified at the prospect of 2016 being the last NASSAM. My Kappa friends are very important to me and I don't want to lose that. I've helped on several NASSAMs and would be glad to again, but 2016 will be the only one I run. In fact, I had to make special arrangements with work to be able to do this one. With that disclaimer out of the way...

There are so many great locations left (although some have infrastructure and personnel issues) including - north Georgia mountains, Michigan, Kentucky (wasn't JRinKY talking about doing this back at the same time Poconos or Portland were announced), South Dakota, New England coast (Solli and Dengel did their time with the Poconos, but there are a LOT of great members up there who could do this), northern California / PCH, southern Canada, etc.

Or maybe change the concept entirely. My wife and I had an idea which has great appeal to us, but would require changing the traditional NASSAM model entirely. What about a Monday through Friday NASSAM from Chicago to Los Angeles on Route 66? It could be done as an ala carte event - people could participate in the whole thing or just portions of it; you wouldn't necessarily need event hotels, just pick a stopping place for each night to get together and let people make their own arrangements; the organizer(s) could set up groups with different stops each day so attendees could customize their own itinerary; and so on. But it would eliminate vendor participation and other aspects of what NASSAM usually is. However, it is an idea if someone wants to run with it...

At the end of the day, I think we're down to going along with whoever is willing to step up and lead the charge for 2017. And if no one does, we're done

I'm certain that there are local forum members and maybe a local chamber of commerce willing to assist with logistics.
Doubt that would work...you could have a National Committee (NC) composed of people who have done the 10 previous events...and yes, the NC could choose a location, but then comes the boots on the ground......not just choosing the hotels, restaurants and catering, but lining up the RC's (road captains) and sweeps and "proofing" the runs. You could pick SW Utah or north Idaho but you will need (guaranteed) at least 20 RC's and sweeps (each) and they have to actually DRIVE those runs...you can't just upload them into their garmins...

Therein lies the biggest problem.
there are many locales with beautiful roads, but they are not near the urban centers where the majority of Kappa owners reside

I've lived in a few areas: Buffalo, Boston, Minneapolis, Florence Alabama, Mobile Alabama, Nashville, Louisville and a few smaller places. All could host an event - even in the summer. While I would love to have an event on the lovely beaches of lower Alabama, my choice would be Louisville because of it's location, lots of things to do, plenty of hotels, and nice (if not great) country roads. Is there anyone on here from Louisville that would join in the planning? My suggestion is that the event becomes what the committee (both local and national members) can support. I'm just rolling this out there.....

Back in May of 2010 it truly looked like the upcoming Canton. Ohio event would be the last. In June a Texas group stepped up and decided to keep the tradition alive. With considerable help from out-of-state Kappa contributors we made it happen. Of course an 18-month or more lead time is preferable, but it is not imperative. Have faith that there will be a National gathering in 2017. Come on people, don't make the Texans step up and pull our chestnuts out of the fire again.

I am up for New Mexico! LOL

Having run one, it can be done in a few months, the longest lead time is the hotel if you are having an event rate.

Cool What about a Great White North National for 2016

Having organized many club run event in the past for the Quebec Solstice and Sky Owners Club where we had around 40 cars each time. I am pretty sure that my fellow members of our Club and myself would be able to organized an incredible event here up north in Quebec Canada.

My plan would be to host it in the Saint-Sauveur area. Where I have a minimum of 6 rides already mapped. With Montreal being very close and the Mont-Tremblant Ski village and Casino, it would be an incredible event. At the least a different one.

There is many activities to be done in the area and many incredible road to ride. I know it is in the great white north and very different as culture (French) even if many of us are bilingual..

But please .....tel me .....what would you think of a 2017 GWNNASSM

Great whit north National meet

I love it! I attended your Eastern Township event a few years back. It was extremely well organized and a great time. It would be awesome if you and your team took this on. Count me in!

vzzp0c "Great White North National for 2016"

Are you offering an alternate 2016 event ?

If for 2017, would every American attending be required to have a current passport and would that present a bit of a problem?

I think GWN event would probably have a limited participation but sounds like a great area. Just like here in MI it may be difficult to get some to drive the distance required and very out of way for many. If GWN is location decided upon I'm ready to go there, passport ready. Still lots of planning for you all. Better then being the end of Nationals and will give GWN a time to shine.

We could do a meet up in Ontario and do a "Kappa Konvoy". Another great reason for doing this in Canada is our exchange rate. Our $ is around 1.70 which means your USD is worth around 1/3 more! We are a 1 1/2 years away so no one knows where the CDN $ will be but my bet would be it is worth less than the USD.

I believe Kappa vendors would have issues coming north of the border, but at least Solo have a Canadian base of operations.
