I'd go to Colorado, was born there and my wife would love it.

How about a daily happy hour, wine, beer, and snacks? A daily chance to debrief the day and relax before dinner.

This is not just for 2018, Rob. I'd like to see it at all meets.

Set up a booth or just a table in the parking lot with a large WELCOME / INFORMATION sign over it. It should be manned as long as there are people around, but it would contain a basic info sheet about Kappas and our annual meets and the car show as well as any flyers that clubs from around the country would provide about their activities. There would be business cards touting the forums. There could also be some handouts from vendors. I've seen stuff from specialized insurance companies, car care products, sample size bottles of bug removers, etc. And of course, anything that is for sale in the registration area could also be made available to the general public outside.

In general, we cater to our own but don't market our hobby to others. Let's invite them in.

as I was waxing my car today, I thought of:
- headlight restoration demonstration
- techniques for touch-up paint application

Got a suggestion to have a poker run. Lots of motorcycle events have poker runs but have yet to see one at a National. Can be fun.

I like the overnight cruise concept. One other locale that we've been to and is a great spot to check out, because the whole town is on the National Historic Register...is Crested Butte. Great drive getting there from Ouray and lots of shops to peruse and even take a drive up to the little ski town of Mt. Crested Butte.

Also, having someone show and explain proper car detailing techniques for our specific nooks and crannies!

I like some of the directions you're going with in your list of some options! The all day runs to Mesa Verde & the loop of Ouray-Durango-Telluride and back on 62 to Ridgeway-Ouray.
Some fabulous scenery in that parts of Colorado.

Poker runs organized by yacht clubs and marinas used to be quite popular until several large lawsuits against the organizers resulted from accidents.

Here is a quote from an officer of one offshore club: "Bob and I could no longer put on our event (Smoke On The Water Poker run) due to the lawsuit of 10 million dollars we got sucked into after two guys died at our event, and is why we stopped running it. After the suit was settled we realized that the way the Poker Runs were headed we could not continue to leave ourselves exposed to the litigation that would come if ANY incident happened again. As a result we have not restarted the event. It is not about right or wrong in a suit and it is not about “an award” it is about SETTLEMENTS and in our case that meant over 8 million dollars."

I'd stay far away from it. But if you must do something, find another name for it, prohibit drinking, and don't have any time limits that could encourage speeding.

Good input Grandpa. If we did it it would be geriatric, slow and easy.

Every poker run I have done, had nothing to do with speed in any way. You drove to a spot, drew a card and drove to the next spot, normally 5 stops. Top hand wins. We did it a lot with classic car runs years ago.

Actually we had one last year in our Palm Springs run.

Again on the Poker Run stuff, who ever promotes an event, will be responsible in the end. Something happens you will get dragged into court. That is just the way the system works, someone has to be responsible for your failure to use common sense.

Thanks Rob for getting this going, as directed I will work on the hotel stuff when I am there in a couple of weeks. The only real problem with this area, is that it is a gigantic tourist spot. A lot of history about mining, the million dollar highway. The high mountain tours between Ouray, Silverton and Telluride. They plow the trails for the tour companies, not the off roaders. It is a huge business in the area. Hotel rooms are not what I would call reasonable by any means. I have never tried them in June though. Not many of the high passes are open that early, so the demand for rooms may not be as high.

The hotel site that I would suggest it the Best Western Twin Peaks. That will be my first choice for headquarters, but there are others close by. Twin Peaks has a large area in front of the Hotel, that we use as our main headquarters for the FJ 4 day event. It has adequate parking for well over 100 cars I am sure. I will check on the tent for the main site also.

The FJ community has donated money for local high school scholarships and to the Ouray High Mountain Rescue.

Ouray also holds world class level Ice Climbing competition in January. Ouray Ice Festival ? Ouray Ice Park

A 100 mile mountain bike ride that goes over Imogene Pass at over 13,000 feet.

The area is amazing in the summer and winter.

Rob, as stated, I can get us in touch with the right people in town, I am certain. But as far as hands on work this year, I am just too far away. I have notified my company, that this is to be my final year, of course I did that 5 years ago, and I see how well that has worked out. I have a meeting with the owner again this Friday about my division. Have told him 4 or 5 times I am done, but he just will not listen. Anyway, after this year, I should have a lot more time on my hands. And there is talk of buying a summer home in Ouray. Patti has been talking with realtors for the last two months. So if that happens, we will have an area close by for the volunteers to stay. Again down the road a little ways.

I am very hopeful we will be able to pull the NASSAM off for 2018. I love sharing my personal paradise with others. It is so much more than off roading. It is called the Alps/Switzerland of the America's. I first started going there 30-40 years ago. The last 12 or 15, I have went at least once during the summer. Most likely make it twice this year.

I am so anxious to share the beauty and the wonderful people of the city with everyone. A very friendly, welcoming atmosphere.
