Solstice/Sky at the Dragon Video!!!

Ladies and gentlemen,

We had an AWESOME time up on the Tail of the Dragon Aug. 12. I rolled tape on both our runs Saturday. We have made our place among the car rallies that occur their every year and I hope our numbers grow each year.

The video I've prepared runs 28 minutes and 9 seconds. I incorporated both the noth and south run because my StickyPod came loose from my windshield 12 minutes into the north run. The footage of the North Run was just too good to scrap! I appreciate smartin and dori for being great subjects directly behind my car!

Special note: When It transitions to the South run, I ACCELERATED the footage because of a Pickup that slowed the entire group. (Dori was the lead car and did his best to get the truck to pull off.) We did not drive the Dragon at the speeds the faster footage seems.

Caution: Some may need Dramamine!

I used the following musical selections:

One Vision - Queen
Orange Blossom Special - Nitty Gritty Dirt Band
Twilight Zone - Golden Earring
Duel of the Fates(from Episode One) - John Williams
Black Betty - SpiderBait
Navras(from Matrix Revolutions) - Don Davis

Now with out further adieu: (Thank you to pursuit for providing server space!!)

Video

Great job SW! Makes me want to be there next year; if I can wait that long after getting my GXP. It looks like a great stretch of road. I've read all of the posts since the run & have a few questions towards planning for when I will participate. What kinds of speeds were achieved in the straights, corners? Did you agree on intensity of drive before each run? The southbound looked a bit faster; but still at a comfortable 7/10. Did anyone feel they were held up? Was car order relative to desired intensity discussed?

Just curious, so I know what to expect next year; and whether to plan an extra day or time to make a more intense run

Let's see if I can answer these appropriately:

Speeds in Straights and corners: Not many straights on the Dragon, most of the road is S-curves and hairpins. First few runs, take it easy and familiarize yourself. When you're new to the road, most of the time you'll be in second gear, maybe get into third on the straights. Never see 4th.

We didn't arrange cars based on speed. Mainly just everyone got in line where they wanted to.

You'll run into slower traffic on the Dragon. Cruiser groups and trucks primarily.

Anyone else care to chime in?

The southbound looked a little faster because I sped up the footage slightly. But many people seem to prefer running south on the Dragon.

Only thing I want to add is that SolsticeWolf in his Mysterious was first because he was filming and then we had Dori-San in his Aggressive, NationsKappatol in his Pure and me in my Deep (i.e., red, white, blue) in honor of Chief Jay on the northbound run. Everyone else just lined up behind us. On the southbound run, it was a free for all.
