Gunnison, Colorado Car Show

Our buddies from the Colorado area do a major car show in Gunnison, Colorado on the 19th thru the 21st of August. We are talking about making the event. In a beautiful area, with a lot of Skys and Solstice's in participation. I will post the particulars later this week. It would be great to attend this event as a group from CA.

If interested, PM me and I will get you the information.

I know that Rob the Elder will be in attendance and most likely Rick Flory, the two past NASSAM best of show winners!

Sounds like fun, but unfortunately will be working then.

Well we made the run, a little over 1900 miles in 4 days, two car shows, but missed the breakfast.

The event was well organized and the weather was wonderful once we got to the event. The trail to it was not so great.

Got caught in a flash flood, south of Needles, California, did a lot of damage to the bottom of the car. Tore up the front bumper, the air dam, exhaust system and some dents in the transmission cover. I have not seen it yet, but will try to get some pictures of the damage. The saddest part is the car was basically submerged in mud and water on Thursday night. It had never seen rain, never been driven that far. Had to be a real shock for the baby.

The exhaust system was hit hard several places and have some good sized dents in it, but does not seem to be leaking, it did bend it up to where it hits the body, but can be fixed it appears. Will check it out this afternoon. Front bumper is in bad shape underneath, but body shop guys thinks it is okay. I may just rhino line it on the bottom with an aluminum piece across the bottom.

The trip home, was comparatively un eventful, but did get rain through most of Arizona. From Kingman on it was clear. Did run across a lady stranded in one of the washes that flooded. She had been there the whole night, was out of food and water and it was already 95 degrees. We gave her water and food and called her friends, who came an got her, we checked on that last night. I felt terrible, but really nothing I could do more to help. Not room in one of these things for a passenger. Did not call highway patrol, as I felt she may have been an illegal, and did not want to cause her anymore problems than she had already gone through.

So a little bad, some very good times and a little help to someone on the way home, made for a really fun weekend. By far the most this car has ever been driven, and for sure the worst conditions it has ever endured. I am truly amazed it survived the flash flood, watched a pickup get washed off the road right in front of us. The power of water in those conditions is amazing for sure.

Improvise, Adapt and Overcome. Sounds like your a lot like all of the Marine friends I've had over the years. Hope the car turns out to not be too bad and you get it sorted in short order.

Yea I whined like a little girl about it, but after getting home and the lady calling us last night thanking us for helping her, I realized that I went to the car show for a reason, not the one I thought for sure.

Cars can be fixed and repaired. Being stranded in the desert in 100 degree temps, no one stopping to help, things might have been much worse for this lady.

She is good, and appreciated us helping her, the car is not that important in the grand scheme of things. Knowing you do the right thing is far more important.

Thanks for the encouraging words criggleman, spent time in Tennessee, my son was born there. Good people, beautiful state and hopefully a football team that can knock of Bama this year!!!

Thanks Dave, I try to be. I know sometimes my humor is not appreciated. But I come on here for one reason and one reason only. To have a good time with good people that I enjoy hearing from and about. The cars are just an addition to the fun, hearing about some things we do and the answers given to help people. And of course you have to add in putting up with Rob. He can be a challenge at times!!!!

And that, in brief, is what this forum is all about - having fun and talking about our cars and their idiosyncrasies.

No comment from me. I look forward to meeting Rob sometime in the future, for better or worse.

Me too. Come to Colorado in 18! Do I need to come pick you up and trailer your car out?

I spend half my free time working on other people's cars and trying to help them. I am happy helping you too.

Just plan the outing to NOT include the summer solstice. I have a little girl in my life whose birthday is June 21, and until she is much, much older, I don't plan on missing her birthday party. It is as simple as that. Grand-daughters take precedence over car get-togethers, every time!
