Well...if I had to guess, it sounds like you are missing a tooth/spline in your diff.... But, it could be trans too. Do you have access to a hoist? If so, lift the wheels off the ground, put it in gear and then raise it so you can hear/see where it's coming from at this point... Definitely something rotating with speed. It could be anything from bearings in the rear wheels all the way to the front of the trans. But, since it doesn't get louder with speed and stays consistent with speed, I'm willing to guess you chipped a tooth.

When I changed the original fluid, there was nothing solid on the drain plug. Just fine particles like I'd expect.

When I had it up in the air a couple weeks ago, it wouldn't make the noise. I'll try to get it back up and do it again.

Did you ever solve the issue?

That sounds like the frequency of the noise MULTIPLIES when you shift gears and incrementally increases with engine speed. Immediately after shifting, the sound gets much more frequent but you haven't sped up yet as you JUST changed gears. I would think this indicates an internal issue in the transmission.

I took it to the dealer and it was excessive gear lash. They replaced the rear and it is now quiet again. What happened, I don't know. I wanted to get the original rear but since the warranty took care of it, they kept it.
