NS, enjoy you're first ride of the season. I know after having the car parked all winter that when you take it out for the first cruise of the season you feel like you have a really sweet car compared to all the 4 door sedans, SUVs, and trucks on the road. Make sure you drive by some big windows to catch the cars reflection.

I'm hoping so, bodyshop left me a message for me to call them back, sure hope its something minor. Just called, they told me they forgot to get verbal authorization to work on painting the parts, apparently it's their bodyshop policy. I told them I thought dropping off the parts was a form of consent, they agreed by still needed verbal confirmation. Weird.

As far as pics, I know I've been bad at not posting anything. That's mainly due to thinking taking pics has never been a priority to me. Plus needing to buy a new camera, and needing a new TV, and a needing a new daily driver, and my wife doesn't need a new kitchen she WANTS a new kitchen, it never ends, lol.

EDAG hardtop complete w/all mounting hardware that continues to just sit in my garage. Below pics are from where dealership was storing it in their small parts department. Original owner gave it to the dealership w/he traded his Solstice in for a Ford. No mounting hardware was included, Revenge Design was nice enough to sell me a complete mounting installation kit. Primary reason I purchased it was I didn't want to see a part of Solstice history tossed into a landfill.

Only EDAG tops left are just the hardtop shells w/no mounting hardware, rubber seals, or inside felt headliner that are being advertised on Ebay and Craigslist for $500. BTW, the EDAG hardtop uses real glass for side and rear opening hatch window.

Thanks WS, I'll going to do as you suggest. But this is just another reason I'd like to see the 30 day edit rule extended to 90, so I can make tweaks to the thread after 30 days, and not have to worry about reposting and seeing it come up under new threads.

Do you know if the name "Club Racer" hardtop would qualify this top to be used in SCCA Club Racing without a roll bar?

Unless there is a set of rules I've not come across, a hard top is never acceptable as a replacement for a roll bar. They don't even allow the coupes to run as true hard tops in most organizations. Drag racing rules might be different - I am talking just about road racing.

I'll answer the same as Bill, no! I just had this discussion via email with a fellow at the SCCA, and the Solstice requires a SCCA approved "roll bar" for use in a track night.

For competition, the Sol requires a "roll cage" AND a SCCA approved top, which is the the carbon fiber one specifically made for competition. The manufacturer of this top is specified in the SCCA rules which apply to the Solstice. It is also mentioned in the Solstice Competition book available via GM Parts sales organizations.

I don't have a copy of the book or the regs handy, but they are available online if you are good with google searching.

Thanks, Bill and Dave. I sure wish that I could Club Race/HPDE but it just isn't possible. I'm 6' tall and if I added a roll bar, I would no longer be able to slide the seat back far enough. Not to say anything about the co$t!

I did a bit of quick research:

Read The Book: Solstice Performance
If you want to learn more about building a road racer Pontiac Solstice, check out the new technical build book from Pontiac, Solstice Performance (GM PN 88958697). Out in October 2007, it provides details on how to upgrade a Solstice to meet the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) racing requirements, how to set up the chassis, and tips on how to go fast at the racetrack. There are more than 800 photos that show the details for creating a fun, competitie Solstice road racer.

From the SCCA GCR: For Pontiac Solstice in class T-2:
Detachable hardtop GM part #PCS-0664 shall be installed and convertible top shall be removed. Suspension option ZOK and Rear Spoiler (D52) allowed. This max tire size supersedes TCS 9.1.10.D.7.b. B&M cooler #70298 and Weldon Series 9200 pump may be used for differential and/or transmission cooling. The mounting and wiring associated with the installation of these coolers is unrestricted provided it serves no other purpose. Ron Davis radiator part #1-38S006 allowed.

SCCA 2015 General Competition Rules:
The Sports Car Club of America - Club Racing

Have fun!

I got a kick out of the final response I got from my inquiry as to running a Solstice at the SCCA's new "Track Night in America"

I know I would hate to see your solstice get bent.

My advice would be to go find a $2500 miata, put a $500 bar in it (Harddog), spend $250 rebuilding the brakes and go have a blast.

Good Luck,

Thanks a lot, Dave! This really helps.

When I have tried to find anything in the GCR, I usually search for about an hour, then just give up.

I know where you are coming from on that! I'm an attorney by training, so I am somewhat prepared for looking through the GCR, but I always have a headache when I'm done.

Yogi,

I just downloaded the most recent copy of the GCR, and scanned it for "Solstice". With the exception of T2, all other classes that the Solstice qualifies for can probably get away with using the Smoothline Club Racer or Norm's racing coupe top. I'm guessing that the GM carbon fiber top is no longer available. Still need a cage however.

I know this doesn't help you, or me, but it may be the first crack in the armor.

Dave

Maybe so, but there is no way that I can afford a cage, cut up the car to install it, etc.

Thanks again, Dave.

WooHoo, body shop called and left a message that the Club Racer hardtop, and all the other parts I took in are finished and ready to be picked up.

4/28/15 Picked up Club Racer hardtop, GXP fascia, Norms GXP splitter, Aftershock recessed grills, L&R door handles, and the inner honey comb Aftershock grill inserts. The outer Aftershock recessed grills were painted bright silver for contrast.

Not 100% happy w/the quality of the paint job, more like 80% satisfied. I'd asked for a very good quality paint job but not show quality. I told them I wasn't in a rush, hoping that they'd take their time and do a good job. Unfortunately, there are a couple small areas when seen under fluorescent lights show up looking ruff.

4/30/15 Trail fitted the hardtop on tonight. Totally diggin it.
