The way I have understood it unless I misunderstood what powertrain has told me is that there is no "learn down" to a specific torque level. The only way the calibration makes adjustments is to protect the turbo or engine, but will relearn back to the optimized settings.

If that optimized setting gives you 290 crank hp, then that is what you get after it relearns back up from a protection change. If that optimized setting, due to improvements in efficiency, have netted you 304 hp at the crank, then that is what you get when it relearns back up from a protection change.

I hope that is clear.

It is 290 hp @ crank, not rwhp.

Although this sounds very nice, some of the other tunes here are putting out over 340 crank hp for less money. Now if only they can get their hands on the upgraded MAP sensor.

I imagine GM is more interested in warrantying 290 than 340. And those of us who are interested in the tune for the upgraded sensors, will, unfortunately, also have the buy the tune to get the OS changes that support those sensors.

BTW, GM, while I understand you're not particularly interested in the latter group of people from a business perspective, might I offer the fact that you're actually unburdening yourself from COGS for everyone interested in moving beyond your tune... since we're voluntarily giving up our drivetrain warranty... thus saving you claim costs against them. Hmmm... win/win?

Might I suggest gm's stage 2 will be an open ended 4 bar op system with only basic calibration and easily calibrated via HPT?

Void my powertrain warranty. I dont give a hoot. I pretty much did at 300 miles when I started flashing the car, and making hardware changes.
It's WHY I bought the car! it's the perfect canvas for a true sports car, and the LNF is fantastic.

Heck, if gm could be co-operative with those of us on this end of the spectrum, we could provide you with valuable data about the chassis.
What wears out at what HP level and what type of usage.
What the long term effects of very high hp has on the chassis, etc.

Exactly... rather than have a GMPP where we get what we get when we get it, run a more Mopar-like program where the real performance parts come over the counter. I realize GM does support some racers, but there are rarely parts for the common consumer that directly come out of it. It's more of an ad campaign.

But... I realize you didn't ask me how to run your business (maybe you should have *cough* )

I love the no holds barred attitude!! I'm not a programmer by any means, but wouldn't "easily calibrated via HPT" mean GM working directly with HPT? Not to be a downer, but you may have better luck getting HPT to create the custom OS than GM working with HPT, and that isn't saying much.

It's awesome to see this upgrade coming to fruition though, regardless of its capacity...

2008 BRAZEN GXP - 5M Loaded Tuned to 22 PSI with HPT, AEM water/methanol injection kit - 4gph, Hahn Racecraft Intercooler. Solo street race exhaust, Catless, LE5 Throttle body, ZFR 6758, custom CAI 307whp on dyno dynamics - stock turbo (21 psi) 463whp/454wtq EFR 6758 26-27 psi,100 octane - tuned by me

Not at all, HPT's entire life blood is reverse engineering these OS's so they can be modified. As long as GM doesn't do anything silly to protect the OS from modifications we should be good. Wouldn't put it past them though.

GM Will not legally work with any aftermarket tuner in order to protect themselves from liability. plain and simple.

This tune sounds great to me!

In comparison.. The 05-06 GTo weighed in about 900 Lbs more then our kappa.. And were 400hp / 400 torque (crank).. Our light little cars with this tune should be able to give them a run for the money.. at 290/ 340... And Those numbers are with the remainder of the car stock...

I had an 05 GTO and it was fast.... This tune should put us at almost the same HP to wieght ratio.

Good to know cool. Hey, you mentioned HP to weight ratio. What is the formula in figuring that out? I have a friend that has a stock 08 BMW M5. It is stock and I am curious as to how much HP I would need to hang with him. Thanks!

At the risk of being obvious, HP/weight = HP to weight ratio. For example, 290 HP/2900 lbs is 0.100 HP/lb. I've also seen the inverse reported, which would be 10 lb/HP.

Envious, ebony leather, loaded, DDM Stage II S/C, headers/cat/exhaust, 4-piston brakes/slotted rotors, Probeam, Backbone, Lil' Chromies, K-sphere pedals, Kazera KZ-L wheels, the TWEETY door unlock/lock button, High Note horn, Brushed Al door sills, etched/lighted WindRestrictor, white LED map/footwell lights, 3rd brake light pulser. --- She moves!

Just divide the weight by the rwhp. My GTO weight to HP ratio was 9.62.
