CRiggleman I think it's pretty cool how we all can enjoy these cars in such different ways. The Kappa platform was one of the last car guy cars in my opinion. Cheap enough that you can pretty much do what you want with it and not feel like you are just throwing money down the toilet. All this talk about how we like different top configurations, the fact that you can put a V8 in one if want, etc. reminds me of the good old days when I was messing around with cars from the sixties. Except the Solstice is about 100 times better in just about every way.

MattM Yeah...I'm with marksburg and Choptop. I didn't buy my Sky because it is a convertible....I bought it despite it being a convertible! I almost never had the top down when I drove it because I couldn't stand the road/wind noise on the highways above 50. When I drive it it is usually on the highways. In my opinion when any soft top convertible is up I think it always takes away from the look of the car. You have the (in my opinion) amazing, aggressive straight lines of the Sky then with the top up since it is a soft top and the burtresses have kind of a "pulled" look and the top is kind of bumpy looking...it sort of cheapens the looks for me, or just takes away from the overall look of the Sky. With this top it now doesn't have that "bumpy" look to it which really adds to the look in my opinion.

One think I wish Smoothline would have done with the Sky top (what I think would make it look even better) is eliminate the two "humps" on the top, and make the top more of a flat/angular look. On the Solstice those "humps" look perfect, but they are round lines on the straight lined Sky.

You are partially right about the trunk, but I say partially because the trunk was small and a pain to use anyway. You had to pop the buttresses off make sure they were out of the way when you closed the top then re-latch the buttresses, so I didn't really use my trunk much anyway.

marksbug if the price was right I could go for a top like the coupe and have much more room back there, especially for cross country treks. I didnt buy mine so I could have a convertable,I would rather have a coupe but the price was the factor.

Even though I don't drive ours in snow, sleet, hail, or rain, I leave my hardtop on in the summer just because I think it makes the Sol looks better. Different strokes for different folks.

Unless you are trying to do an end run around track regulations for convertibles, I don't understand the desire, especially since you now don't have a trunk.
But you like it, and that is what matters
To be honest, I was half just cracking wise and half serious. I have one of these tops but the only reason I do is because until recently my Solstice was my daily driver and I really like the fact it kept me from having to use my convertible top in the winter and still managed to look pretty good when it's on.

One of the things that drew me to these cars though is that I've always thought that they look great top up or top down. Until this more recent spate of hardtop convertibles that was one thing pretty difficult to pull off. When the temps are above 50 or so my top is almost never up unless it's raining. It would drive me crazy to have the hardtop on any longer then necessary.

marksbug the eazy way to do it is a fiber glass /carbon fiber, 2 peice trunk with seals& latch, just unplug the oe latch and plug it into the new one so it opens with the same actions.the latch go's on the the short peice that the "wings" are sitting on witch stays put and the trunk lid opens as normaly., either leave the top in the trunk or remove it for more trunk space. not really hard to do at all an it could just be a option to go with the top if you want it, thus the top price stays the same.then add a $400-$600 trunk lid option...

MattM Meaning the Sky Redline needed a hardtop version.
