Sunday afternoon, 7/10...exactly how did you manage that? Venting: I got central reservations and they said I had to speak directly to the hotel then transferred me to dead silence. Calling back multiple times and trying EVERY extension option merely went back into a loop of the SAME options. Never got a human being at the hotel, mailboxes full, etc... No internet reservations makes this an exercise in how to save money by not attending. Extremely frustrating but I will call again. Two more strikes and...

Well... from my point view, I acknowledge your frustration.
Yet, given that many many people had run into problems before I tried to make my reservations,
I decided to increase my odds of success by calling during M-F when 'normal' staff would be manning the station,
and I called between 11am and 1pm local time for them (eastern) when there would be less chance of
random check-ins and check-outs to interfere with my call.

I did not even attempt to call on a weekend. The weekend staff , in my opinion, would have
the least experience.

These opinions are created from my travels to hotels throughout my traveling years, including this year's NASSAM.

I did get a reservation on the 2nd try. ( the first try got me the endless wait... )

my 2 cents...

Central reservations cannot access the special rates. When central accesses their system it shows the hotel sold out.

The only way to get a reservation is to call the front desk directly.

I have polled several people. About half get in the first try, others can take a few tries and some like me spent a long time making multiple calls. But in the end, we all got reservations. Hang in there.

I shall persevere...decided after I posted that the weekend was not a good time. Here's to luck. I will say being transferred to dead silence and the looping was not endearing. The central reservations person was quite helpful once we got the communications working. She said the hotel was handling everything.

Thanks, Richard
Hang in there. Plenty of rooms and you will get through eventually.
I do not believe I will. Been trying this morning and NOTHING has changed with the phone number for the hotel and and its phone tree. Called Radisson central and now I am on terminal hold at Radisson "Customer Service". Surely there is another way for someone to get in contact with the hotel. I wonder if they are aware. I'd hate to have an emergency and try to reach someone staying there. This is two...

Am I expecting too much?

Richard
After 14:41 minutes customer service finally picked up and the lady I am on hold for again while she tries to arrange a call back. She said she could not get through and I am not the only call this morning about the hotel's contact problem. Can't do this on the internet, eh? It'll be wonderful if contact occurs regardless.

OK...after over 10 more minutes on hold the lady comes back to tell me corporate will contact the hotel in 4-6 days and the hotel will call me about reservations and also call or email me about finally contacting the hotel. I laughed, wrote down the ticket # and thanked the lady for her time (aka...my time). I am sure after all this the next time I call 304 252-5100 will be a charm, or not.

Onward to the rest of the day.

Richard
On a whim dialed one more time and, yes, it was a charm. Done...with all requests hopefully fulfilled. All I have to do is certify I am crazy and it's no problem. The person I spoke with was patient, courteous and a local. Did say they were the only one handling reservations but no explanation as to why the phone tree loop. I guess this is a case of results may really vary.

Now it's "Beckley or Bust"?

Richard

This is a really beautiful area. Many moons ago we (GM coworkers) did the river rapids. Local government opens the dam every morning to let a large glug of water out, which makes it very exciting. By late afternoon things settle back down. We watched people bungie jumping off the bridge + base jumping off the bridge. Going to try and get reservations this week sometime.....

Rafting the Upper Gauley during the Fall Letdown is a truly unique experience. Unfortunately for the NASSAM attendees it only occurs during six weeks each September and October.
How in the world do I print out post #2 ??
Can someone please pdf me the file?

Finally got it in a word doc. Would not print as a paste to my email....Thanks!
