My car has now hit 140k miles and everything was fine until now. Every time I slow down or make a complete stop, my car jerks and seems like the tires lock as well. The "check engine" light turned on shortly after the first symptoms. I just had new tires put on and I don't know what the problem is, and if it's safe to even drive. When i'm going at highway speeds the car runs perfectly, just when i go below 20 mph or so is when the problems start. Any suggestions or ideas on what it may be?:(

Welcome to the forum

Can you provide us with more info about the car? Turbo or NA? Auto or manual transmission?

What codes are stored?

sounds like the car is dying / cutting out at low speeds. good thing is since the light came on, you can take it to your local autoparts store and they will read the code for free. then do a search on the code and you should find a solution. you can post the code here like Rob mentioned and we can discuss it further. Let us know the last time you changed the spark plugs and if you have ever had one of your fuel pumps replaced. I'm guessing the low pressure pump could be going south. good luck.

Thanks, and as I told rob the codes it gives me are :

Code P0011-Intake Camshaft Position System Performance
Code P0700 and Code P0263

Last time I changed spark plugs was about last spring, and I have not gotten a fuel pump replaced.

The most likely problem is either the cam servo or the position senser. They will rarely cause the TCM to be upset because the cam is not positioned correctly and the ECM input to the TCM is bad. See transmission suckage thread.

They do fail, but are cheap and easy to fix. See threads on cam servo replacement.
